MOUNT VERNON — Faye Chartraw won the shot put and placed second in the discus for Neah Bay at the Northwest 1B/2B League meet at Mount Vernon High School.
Chartraw, a senior, won the shot put with a distance of 31 feet, 1 inch at Wednesday’s meet.
Her throw of 89-08 in the discus was good enough for second place and is the second-best mark on the North Olympic Peninsula this season, trailing only the 102-04 of Port Angeles’ Cami Raber.
Chartraw’s teammate Selena Akin placed fourth in the discus Wednesday with an 89-01, which ranks fourth on the Peninsula.
Akin added a fourth-place showing in the triple jump.
Eighth-grader Cheyanna Svec was the Red Devils’ other top-five finisher, placing fifth in the 100-meter dash.
Neah Bay also had top-fives in the 4×100 and 4×200 relays.
Tiffany Smith, Svec, Amanda Gagnon and Hannah Olson placed third in the 4×100, while Vonte Aguirre, Svec, Olson and Gagnon came in fourth in the 4×200.
The Neah Bay girls finished fifth out of seven teams with 48 points. Host Mount Vernon Christian won the meet with 185 points.
The Neah Bay boys took fourth with 51 points. La Conner was first with 217.5 points.
Chris Tangeant had the best showing of the meet for the Neah Bay boys, taking second in the 400 with a Peninsula-best time of 52.87 seconds.
Tangeant shaved — no, chopped — nearly 9 seconds off his previous best time in
the 400.
Cameron Buzzell placed third in the 200 and fourth in the 100, and Auston Jimmicum finished fourth in both the 110-meter hurdles and the 300 hurdles.
Buzzell, Tangeant and Jimmicum teamed with Roland Gagnon to finish fourth in the 4×400 relay.
Eighth-grader Isaac Jay Brunk ran to fifth-place finishes in the boys 800 and 1,600.
In the 800, Brunk was followed by teammates Austin Iverson, who took sixth, and Roland Gagnon, who came in seventh.
