TRACK AND FIELD: Neah Bay, Crescent go toe-to-toe

JOYCE — The Neah Bay boys and girls edged Crescent in the North Olympic 1B track and field championships held in Crescent on Friday.

The Neah Bay boys were strong in the sprints, while the girls dominated the distance events and relays. The Crescent boys and girls dominated the field events.

The Neah Bay girls won with 64 points to Crescent’s 48. Clallam Bay was third at 15. The Neah Bay boys had 71 team points to 54 for Crescent. Clallam Bay had 17.

Both the Neah Bay and Crescent boys had multiple event winners.

Neah Bay’s Mahamadou Traore won the boys 100 meters in a time of 12.74 seconds, barely edging teammate Devon Halttunen, who came in second at 12.79. Traore also won the 300 meters in 1:06.00, a personal record.

Crescent’s Dominiq Sprague won the 3,200-meter run in a time of 13:24.25 and the 300-meter hurdles at 52.03, a personal record. Sprague also won the triple jump with a distance of 35 feet, 10 inches. His teammate Titus White won the discus with a personal-best distance of 114 feet, 10 inches and the javelin with a throw of 113 feet, 5 inches.

The Neah Bay boys 4×100 relay team of Leonardo Ruiz-Santana, Jaden Halttunen, Devon Halttunen and Traore won with a time of 51.16, while the Clallam Bay 4×400 team of Jose Jimmicum, Daniel Cumming, Jeremiah Signor and William Hull won in a time of 4:30.77.

Other boys winners included:

200 meters — Jodell Wimberly, Neah Bay, 26.58.

800 meters — Thomas Corral, NB, 2:37.21.

110-meter hurdles — Peyton Watson, Crescent, 21.78.

Shot put — Conner Ferro-May, Crescent, 39-1.

High jump — Cole Grooms, Crescent, 4-10.

Long jump — Jaden Halttunen, NB, 17-0.

Girls

Crescent’s Naomii Sprague was the big star for the girls. She won both the 100 meters (14.53) and the 200 meters (29.80), then won a pair of field events — the long jump (13-8) and the triple jump (27-8).

Ryana Moss of Neah Bay won the 800 meters (3:03.20), the 1,600 meters (6:06.56) and the 300-meter hurdles (54.43). Crescent’s Katelyn Dunavent won the shot put (25-11) and the discus (87-5).

The Neah Bay 4×100 team (Danika Perry, Bethany McKee, Tyson Dalos and Branndi Bowechop) won in a time of 1:08.19 and the Red Devils’ 4×200 team (Koren Cumming, Perry, Cerise Moss and Wiinuk Martin) won in a time of 2:18.08.

Other girls winners included:

400 meters — Martin, NB, 1:13.92.

Javelin — Bowechop, NB, 70-2.

High jump — Abigail Flores, Clallam Bay, 3-8.

Forks at Spudder Classic

RIDGEFIELD — Forks’ Sloan Tumaua beat out competitors from 29 other Washington and Oregon schools to win the discus at the Spudder Track and Field Classic in Ridgefield.

Tumaua threw the discus 132-1. His teammate Nate Dahlgren finished sixth in the same event at 123-5. Dahlgren also finished sixth in the shot put (38-9).

Forks’ Ashton Doyle also placed in the top 10 in a couple of events. He finished seventh in the 100-meter run (11.77) and seventh in the 200 meters (23.95). Doyle also came in 11th in the long jump (18-8).

The Forks 4×400 relay team (Ryan Anderson, Klaton Helvey, Walker Rondeau and Grady Earls) came in ninth with a time of 3:45.19.

Overall, the Forks boys came in 14th out of 30 schools as a team with 20 points. Columbia River won with 68.5 points.

The best finisher for the Forks girls was by LillyAnn Crowell, who came in 11th in the high jump at 4-6.

East Jefferson at Liberty Twilight

RENTON — East Jefferson’s Sebastian Manza and Max Allworth-Miles each had top-10 finishes in the 1,600 meters at the Liberty Twilight meet this weekend.

Manza finished seventh with a time of 4:31.34 and Allworth-Miles was eighth in a time of 4:31.44. Both times were personal records. Glen Dawson was 26th at 4:43.11 and Soare Johnston 36th at 4:51.25.

In the girls’ race, East Jefferson’s top time in the 1,600 was by Camryn Hines. She finished 14th in a time of 5:32.86. Lia Poore finished 51st (6:07.85).
