VASHON — Buoyed by a strong performance from Aliyah Yearian, the East Jefferson girls finished a close second as a team at the Nisqually League West Central District 3 1A qualifying meet Saturday.
Yearian won the 800, the 1,600 and the 3,200. Her teammate Ellise Gardner also won the javelin.
East Jefferson collected 62 points, behind just Bellevue Christian’s 72.5.
The East Jefferson boys finished third with 34 points. Bellevue Christian won the boys meet with 84.5 and Charles Wright was second at 51. East Jefferson got first-place finishes from sprinter Manaseh Lanphear-Ramirez and javelin thrower Reid Martin.
Yearian took first in the 800 with a time of 2 minutes, 22.45 seconds. She won the 1,600 in 5:29.97 and the 3,200 in 12:48.14. Those are not her top times in any of these events, but she paced a deep East Jefferson distance squad to 11 top 10 finishes in the three races combined. Yearian’s best times in all three events are among the top five in the state.
Gardner won the javelin with a throw of 111 feet, 3 inches.
Kaylen Pray also finished second in the 100-meter run with a time of 12.95 seconds, a personal record. Her time was actually identical to the winning time posted by Audrey Younger of Klahowya, but Younger was declared the winner in a photo finish.
Camryn Hines was third in the 800 with a time of 2:36.60 while Fiona Fraser was third in the 1,600 in a time of 5:34.73 and third in the 3,200 in a time of 12:58.28.
In the boys events, Lanphear-Ramirez took first in the 200 with a personal-record time of 24.44. His teammate Jasper Dances was third at 25.27, Gary Zambor fourth at 25.35 and Conner Peterson fifth at 26.46.
Martin won the javelin with a throw of 151-2.
Peterson was third in the long jump (18-3, personal record) and third in the triple jump (35-11).
East Jefferson track and field athletes compete in the WCD District 3 1A meet Friday in Renton.
Forks at Pacific League
RAYMOND — The Forks girls finished third and the boys fourth at the Pacific 2B League subdistrict meet on Friday.
The Spartans did especially well in the relays and field events.
Forks’ Nate Dahlgren won the shot put with a distance of 46-8, a personal record. He also won the javelin with another personal- record throw of 142-0.
Grady Earls won the long jump with a leap of 18-3¼, another personal record.
For the girls, Keana Rowley won the javelin with a throw of 97-0, beating teammate Peyton Johnson, who was second at 90-3.
The boys 4×400 relay team of Klaton Helvey, Earls, Noah Foster and Camryn Kennedy came in first in a time of 3:45.0.
The girls 4×200 team (Miley Blanton, Erika Williams, Emery Damron and Leslie Hernandez-Beltran) was first in a time of 1:56.98.
Williams came in second in the 200 (26.36), while Damron was second in the 400 (1:07.80). Williams was second in the long jump (14-2) and Rowley was second in the shot put (29-10½).
The Forks 4×400 girls team (Moli Luong, Julia Raupp, Damron and Hernandez-Beltran) was second in a time of 4:36.55, while the girls 4×100 team (Hernandez-Beltran, Williams, Damron and Blanton) was second in a time of 56.05.
For the boys, Kennedy was second in the 400 meters (54.01).
