PORT TOWNSEND — The East Jefferson boys track team won its home Nisqually League meet by a big margin thanks to dominance in the distance and field events, while the Rivals girls finished second out of seven teams.
The boys ended up with 147 team points, easily beating out Bellevue Christian, which had 109. The Rivals girls had 131 points to Bellevue Christian’s 197. Klahowha was a distant third at 62.
The Rivals’ Max Allworth-Miles won the 800-meter run with a time of 2 minutes, 6.17 seconds, while Sebastian Manza won the 3,200 in a time of 10:10.53, beating out teammate, Soare Johnston, who finished second in 10:30.71.
East Jefferson’s Gage Barry won the discus with a distance of 115 feet, 2 inches, then added a third place in the shot put at 38-5¾.
Coming in second in the shot put was Anson Jones with an effort of 41-3, a personal record.
Tusker Behrenfeld also had a solid day, winning the javelin with a throw of 157-1, taking first by more than 35 feet. Coming in second was Reid Martin with a throw of 122-5. Behrenfeld nearly won the discus, coming in second with a distance of 114-6.
The East Jefferson 4×400 team (Jerome Reaux Jr., Manza, Alex Harvey, Allworth-Miles) finished second with a time of 3:54.51.
Girls
Like the boys, the girls did well in the field events.
The Rivals’ Addy Asbell won the shot put with a distance of 27-5¼, while her teammate Melody Douglas came in second at 26-6½.
Ava Vaughan-Mifsud won the discus with a throw of 83-0. East Jefferson’s Ellise Gardner was second at 78-2 and Adelynn Johnson third at 60-9.
Gardner won the javelin with a throw of 81-2.
In the running events, Camryn Hines won the 800 in a time of 2:29.66, a personal record. Stephanie Sanchez finished second in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 17.68, just 0.07 behind first place for a very close finish. That was also a personal record.
Aurin Asbell was second in the long jump with a leap of 14-8, while Lia Poore was third at 13-6½. Poore was also second in the triple jump at 30-9.
