RENTON — The Port Angeles Girls Swim and Dive team took second place at the 2A Bi-District Swim Meet meet this weekend at Hazen High School.
The Roughriders had an overall score of 169, second to Sammamish’s 253 at the meet featuring schools from the West Central III and Sea-King districts. East Jefferson finished ninth with 58 points and Sequim 10th with 45.
Junior Mackenzie DuBois was the top point-scorer for the Riders, finishing third in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2 minutes, 18.51 seconds and third in the 100 butterfly (1:01.97).
Harper McGuire came in third in the 500 freestyle (5:38.84) and fourth in the 200 freestyle (2:05.88). Danika Asgeirsson was fourth in the 100 backstroke (1:07.88), while the 200 medley relay team of McGuire, DuBois, Yau Fu and Anne Edwards came in fourth (2:09.59).
Co-captain Edwards also came in fourth in diving with 245.50 points and Rachel Cooper improved her personal best by three seconds to come in fifth in the 100 breaststroke (1:19.11). Edwards also picked up an eighth-place finish in the 50 freestyle (27.48).
Fu came in fifth in the 500 freestyle (5:52.82) and sixth in the 100 butterfly (1:05.93), while Sage Hunter came in sixth in the 100 backstroke (1:09.88).
Aubrie Scott, a Crescent athlete who competes with the Port Angeles team, finished sixth in diving with 226.55 points. Port Angeles’ Gracie Possinger was ninth in diving with 187.20 points.
The Port Angeles 400 relay team of Asgeirsson, Cooper, Fu and Hunter finished seventh (4:12.76).
Sarah Wilson was 10th in the butterfly (1:10.53) and Emilee Reid was 10th in the 500 freestyle (6:32.66).
The top four finishers in each event from District 3 qualify for state, which will be held Friday and Saturday at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way, but swimmers can also qualify for state by posting qualifying times during the season. There are also “wild card” competitors added in many events. All the state qualifiers will be posted later this week.
East Jefferson
East Jefferson had some solid finishes in the relays. The Rivals’ 200 freestyle relay team of Akeyla Behrenfeld, Juliette O’Hara, Magdaline Ferland and Serena Hanby-Perless finished fifth with a time of 1:57.95 for East Jefferson’s best showing at bi-district.
The Rivals’ 200 medley relay team of Hanby-Perless, Melody Douglas, Behrenfeld and O’Hara finished sixth (2:15.15), and their 400 freestyle team (Hanby-Perless, O’Hara, Ferland and Behrenfeld) finished eighth at 4:24.20.
Behrenfeld also finished eighth in the 100 freestyle (1:01.45), and Douglas was eighth in the 100 breaststroke (1:25.08).
Sequim
Sequim’s best finish was seventh by the 200 medley relay team (Lauren Sundin, Melanie Byrne, Melia Nelson, Hi’ilel Robinson) with a time of 2:10.98 and seventh in the 200 freestyle relay (Sundin, Nelson, Byrne and Robinson) with a time of 1:57.90. Sundin also picked up a seventh place in the 100 backstroke (1:10.12).
The Wolves’ Robinson finished eighth in the 100 freestyle (1:01.87), while Sundin was ninth in the 100 freestyle (1:02.12). Sequim’s Natalie Cross was ninth in the 500 freestyle (6:28.97) and 10th in the 200 freestyle (2:23.99).
Fourteen schools competed in the bi-district meet.
