STATE VOLLEYBALL: Quilcene finishes seventh; Neah Bay, Sequim miss out on trophies

YAKIMA — Quilcene earned its third consecutive 1B state volleyball trophy by knocking off Odessa-Harrington in the seventh-place game at the Yakima Valley SunDome on Saturday.

The Rangers swept the Titans in three sets 25-10, 25-22, 29-27.

Quilcene (21-4) opened play with a 25-9, 25-14, 25-21 loss to Pomeroy on Friday, which eventually advanced to the state championship match.

The Rangers rebounded to sweep Three Rivers Christian 25-16, 25-14, 25-15 to move on to Saturday play.

After dropping its first set to Lyle-Wishram, Quilcene rattled off three straight-set victories, winning 20-25, 25-13, 25-21, 25-11 to advance to the trophy game.

The Rangers finished sixth last season and eighth in 2013.

Neah Bay goes 1-2

The Red Devils made it through to the second day of state play after nearly upsetting Sunnyside Christian in their opening match.

Neah Bay was swept by the Knights, but made it tough, falling 25-23, 25-20, 26-24.

The Red Devils then edged out Naselle in another close contest 26-24, 25-23, 25-22.

But Neah Bay fell

to Odesssa-Harrington

25-19, 25-13, 25-17 to open play Saturday and

were eliminated.

Sequim bounced

The Wolves made a quick exit from the 2A tournament at St. Martin’s University in Lacey.

Sequim fell 25-7, 25-17, 25-19 to Ellensburg in the first round Friday.

The Bulldogs went on to beat Olympic League champion North Kitsap in the quarterfinals and made Saturday’s championship game.

The Wolves (11-9) then lost to Anacortes 25-16, 25-23, 25-15 on Friday.
