STATE TRACK AND FIELD: Cresecent's Wolfer wins state javelin title; Port Angeles' Millsap sets school record; other state reports

CHENEY — Crescent senior Quenton Wolfer is the Class 1B state champion in the javelin after throwing 170 feet and 6 inches on his last throw at Eastern Washington University on Friday.

Wolfer’s teammate Travis Walker placed fourth in the javelin.

Earlier in the day, Wolfer also reached the podium in the discus by finishing sixth with a throw of 116. Clallam Bay’s Evan Messinger placed fourth with a 116-07.

Neah Bay’s Elisha Winck took second at the 1B meet in the triple jump with a 42-0.25, and Crescent’s Martin Waldrip took seventh.

Mansfield’s Macen McLean won the event for the fourth straight year with a 43-03.

Clallam Bay’s Molly McCoy took seventh in the girls high jump with a 4-08, while Crescent’s Ashara Dodson was eighth at 4-04.

Neah Bay’s Faye Chartraw placed third in the shot put with a 33-11.50.

Loggers sophomore Ryan Lester advanced to Saturday’s finals in the girls 100-meter hurdles and 300-meter hurdles. McCoy fell on place short of reaching the finals in the 300 hurdles.

Class 1A state track and field

CHENEY — Port Townsend has two top 10 finishes at the at the Class 1A state track and field meet at Eastern Washington University.

Senior Trish Reeves cleared 5-02 to finish in seventh place in the girls high jump.

Boys distance runner Ryan Clarke finished in ninth place in the 1,600-meter run. Clarke will compete Saturday in the 3,200.

Forks’ Jonny Law finished 13th in the discus after a throw of 120-3. Teammate Miguel Morales was 15th with a throw of 113-05.

Class 2A state track and field

TACOMA — Sequim’s Alex Barry finished third in the javelin at the Class 2A state meet at Mount Tahoma High School on Friday after a throw of 178 feet and 3 inches.

Sequim sophomore Jackson Oliver placed ninth in the high jump after a leap of 6-0, and junior Josh Cibene finished 13th in the pole vault after clearing 12-06.

Port Angeles’ senior javelin thrower Brittany Norberg finished 10th after a throw of 115-08.

Sequim’s Sarah Hutchison finished tied for 10th in the pole vault after clearing 9-0.

Also for the Roughriders, senior sprinter Jolene Millsap set a new school record Friday in the 100-meter dash. Her time of 12.31 seconds surpasses the time of 12.35 seconds ran by Chantea Watson in 2004.

Millsap’s time qualifies her for Saturday’s 100 finals.
