STATE TENNIS: (Updated) Sequim’s Garrett Little in finals

SEATTLE — Sequim’s Garrett Little is in the state finals after winning his first three matches at the state 2A boys tennis tournament.

Little, who finished second at state last year, beat Jack Wang of Sammamish in the semifinals 6-2, 6-3.

Little will face Cole Bales of Archbishop Thomas Murphy in the finals.

He won his first match of the tournament 6-2, 6-1 over Owen Vallegos of Sedro-Woolley, then in the state quarterfinals, came from behind to beat Lucas Walburn of Columbia River 4-6, 6-0, 10-6.

In the 1A boys state tournament, East Jefferson’s Reid Martin is having a successful weekend, winning two out of four matches to finish eighth.

Martin won his opening match, beating Jackson Dhane of La Salle 6-4, 6-0. He lost to Trent Renslow of Entiat 6-1, 6-1 in the second round, but came back and beat Trevor Crowther of Zillah 1-6, 6-1, 6-1 in the consolation bracket. He lost in his final match 6-3, 6-0 to Robert DeForest of St. George’s.

In the doubles tournament, the team of Nate Basden and Matthew Miller lost to the North Kitsap team of Mason Chmielewski and Spencer Gillespie 6-0, 6-0 then lost in the consolation bracker 6-1, 6-2 to Jayden Lovinhoss and Wyatt Wagner of Shelton.

On the girls’ side, Sequim’s Calleigh Thompson lost in her opener 6-1, 6-3 to Anna Samoukovic of Lynden, then lost in the consolation bracket 6-0, 6-2 to Diana Gurierrez of Pullman.
