FEDERAL WAY — Tristin and Cameron Butler of Port Angeles both got top eight finishes at the state 2A boys championship swim meet and Craig Mathew of Sequim finished fourth in the diving competition at the King County Aquatic Center this weekend.
Port Angeles finished 14th as a team at the meet, while Sequim finished 29th out of 39 schools.
Tristin Butler had two top-eight finishes. He came in sixth in the finals of the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4 minutes, 52.30 seconds. He added a seventh place in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:03.31.
Cameron Butler finished eighth in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:52.53 and he qualified for the finals in the 500 freestyle, finishing 13th with a time of 5:06.32. The Port Angeles 400 freestyle relay team of Milo Atwater, Karsten Hertzog, Cameron Butler and Tristin Butler finished 11th with a time of 3:29.97.
A total of five divers from the North Peninsula competed in the diving competition. In addition to Mathew’s solid finish, David Jensen of Port Angeles made the finals and finished 15th, while Andrew Methner of Port Angeles finished 16th in the finals.
Hollund Bailey of Port Angeles finished 19th in diving, while Micah Scott, a Crescent freshman, finished 20th.
Port Angeles’ 200 medley relay team of Alex Hertzog, Tristin Butler, Cameron Butler and Atwater also qualified for the state swim meet, but they disqualified in the preliminaries.
The Sequim 400 relay team of Christian Goodrich, Liam Payne, Alex Berikoff and Steven Nguyen also qualified for state. They DQ’d in the preliminaries.
