STATE SWIM AND DIVE MEET: Sequim’s Ellefson top five in two events; Port Angeles relay teams top 12 in two

FEDERAL WAY — Sequim’s Colby Ellefson finished in the top five in two events at the boys swim and dive state championships held at the King County Aquatic Center this weekend.

Ellefson finished fourth in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1 minute, 52.19 seconds, two full seconds ahead of fifth place. The winning time was by Miles Cratsenberg of Bellingham, who set a meet record in the event.

Ellefson went on to finish fifth in the 500 freestyle (also won by Cratsenberg), in a time of 5:08.95, just edging out Rowan Jung, who had the same official time.

Ellefson single-handedly generated 28.5 points for Sequim, giving the team a 22nd-place finish at state.

Port Angeles

Port Angeles’ best time came from Finn Thompson. He came in seventh in the 100 backstroke with a time of 58.94. This was another event with a meet record, set by winner Ben Madson of Pullman at 48.61.

Thomas Jones came in 10th in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:18.82.

The Port Angeles 200 freestyle relay team of Nolan Medgin, Edward Gillespie, Thompson and Jones came in 10th with a time of 1:38.15, bettering its preliminary time by nearly half a second.

The same quartet came in 12th in the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3:39.34, bettering its prelim time by nearly five seconds. Another meet record was set by Pullman in 3:08.45.

Port Angeles finished with 42 team points, for 19th. Pullman won the state championship.
