STATE SOFTBALL ROUNDUP: Quilcene earns another 1B trophy; Chimacum eliminated at 1A tournament

YAKIMA — The Quilcene Rangers had a Class 1B state championship appearance in their grasp, but the Pomeroy Pirates erased Quilcene’s 4-0 lead in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Pomeroy went on score a run with no outs in the bottom of the eighth inning for a 5-4 win in the state semifinals Friday at Gateway Sports Complex.

The Rangers rebounded to beat Sunnyside Christian 15-0 Saturday to advance to the third/fourth place game.

The Rangers made the semifinals by edging Liberty Christian 4-3 earlier in the day.

Megan Weller’s two-out, two-strike RBI single in the bottom of the fourth inning served as the winning run.

Chimacum falls

RICHLAND — The Cowboys lost both of their contests at the Class 1A state tournament in Richland.

Chimacum fell 8-3 to Omak in the opening round, and lost 10-6 to Lynden Christian in a loser-out game later Friday.

Omak plated five runs in the second and three more in the third to push past the Cowboys.

Shanya Nisbet hit a two-run home run in the top of the first inning against Lynden Christian, but Chimacum couldn’t hold the lead against the Lyncs.
