STATE GYMNASTICS: (Updated) Trio of area gymnasts compete at state

BELLEVUE — The Sequim and Port Angeles gymnastics teams got three gymnasts in the top 83 all-around at the 1A/2A/3A state championships held late last week at Sammamish High School.

There were a total of 145 gymnasts at the two-day meet.

Sequim’s Lucy Spelker had the best all-around finish at 69th with a score of 24.575. Port Angeles Scarlett Sullivan was 77th with a 22.875 and Sequim’s Susannah Sharp was 83rd with a 17.925.

Lake Washington won the team state championship while Seema Borgmann of Sammamish was the individual state champion at 38.275.

Sharp had the best individual finish among a specific event — 17th in the vault with a 9.0. Sullivan was 56th in the vault (8.425) and Spelker was 71st (8.25).

Sharp also had a solid finish in the floor exercise, coming in 44th with an 8.925. Spelker was 82nd on the floor event with an 8.125.

On the beam, Spelker was 56th (8.2), while Sullivan was 71st (7.55). Sullivan was also 71st on the bars with a 6.9.
