CHEHALIS — All three Olympic Peninsula boys at the 2A state golf tournament at the Riverside Golf Club in Chehalis made the first-round cut Tuesday, while Port Angeles’ Claire Osterberg made the first day cut at the girls’ tournament.
Leading the way among the local golfers was Port Angeles’ Austin Worthington, who carded an 81, good for 20th place. Right behind him was Adrian Aragon of Sequim with an 82, good for 24th and Port Angeles’ Cale Wentz, who just made the cut with an 83.
A total of 35 golfers made the first-round cut. Leading the 2A boys tournament was Mason Acker of Washougal with a 71, though two golfers, Wyatt Brownell of Burlington-Edison and Trenton Maddox of Washougal are one stroke behind at 72.
Osterberg, competing at the girls’ tournament at nearby Tumwater Valley Golf Course in Tumwater, shot a 95 on day one, just under the cut line of 96. She is in 34th place.
Just missing the cut was her teammate Amelia Neff, who shot a first-day 100. Raimey Brewer of Sequim shot a 102, Autumn Wilson-Rowland of Port Angeles a 109 and Chloe Tweter of Sequim a 111.
Leading the girls 2A tournament is Jane Knapp of Mark Morris with a first-round 72. She is in first place by four strokes.
In the girls’ 1A tournament at Liberty Lake Golf Course in eastern Washington, freshman June Harper of East Jefferson qualified for the state tournament. She shot a first-day score of 138, missing the cut for the second round.
