PASCO — Port Angeles’ Jack Gladfelter finished third among 2A boys at the state cross-country championships, while the East Jefferson girls, missing their top runner, finished sixth as a team in the state 1A.
Gladfelter, the Olympic 2A League and West Central District champion, finished in a time of 16 minutes, 1.2 seconds, off his best time of the year at 15:15.6, which is a Port Angeles school record. The 2A race was won by Zack Munson of Sehome in a time of 15:37. Samuel Grice of Washougal was second in 15:56.7.
Gladfelter’s teammate Maxwell Baeder had a solid race, as well, coming in 17th with a time of 16:43.0. Only three teams in the state had two runners in the top 20.
As a team, the Port Angeles boys finished 12th. Kowen Kasten came in 97th (18:15.6), Langdon Larson 129th (19:01.7), Bryce DeLeon 146th (19:40.2), Jayden McLarty 151st (19:58.8) and Aidan Butterworth 154th (20:16.4).
Sequim’s Owen Randall was 110th (18:29.7).
Port Angeles’ Leia Larson finished 71st in the girls race (21:45).
The Sequim girls came in 15th as a team. They were led by Kaitlyn Bloomenrader, a state track champion, who came in 49th with a time of 21:00. Liberty Mavy of Sequim finished 86th with a time of 22:04.7.
Other Sequim girls were Sadie Mavy, 132nd (23:50.9), Ahrya Klinger, 150th (25:29.9), Emma Bergmann, 155th (26:45.1), Aspen Goldner, 157th (27:11) and Nikoline Updike, 158th (27:21).
Bellingham won the boys 2A race while Sehome won the girls race.
1A race
Both the East Jefferson boys and girls had good races, though the girls had better depth in their results.
The East Jefferson girls didn’t get any runners in the top 20, but they had four runners in the top 65 and five in the top 93. And they did that without their top runner, Aliyah Yearian, who is out with an injury. Yearian likely would have finished in the top 10 at state and East Jefferson would have easily finished in the top three with her in the race.
Fiona Fraser led the Rivals, coming in 25th with a time of 20:55.30. Camryn Hines was right behind, finishing 35th with a time of 21:25.7.
Tadu Dollarhide came in 60th (22:18.1), Sylvia Butterfield 65th (22:22.5) and Hilina Taylor-Lenz 93rd (23:23). Rounding out the field, Leah Ferland came in 108th (23:49.9) and Michael Gregg finished 130th (24:44.5).
Lakeside won the girls race with 94 points. Overlake had 101, Medical Lake 122, Naches Valley 141, Bush 183 and East Jefferson 198.
The East Jefferson boys got two runners in the top 15, one of only three schools in the state to do so at the 1A level.
Sebastian Manza came in 11th with a time of 17:17.7, while Soare Johnston was 15th with a time of 17:26.7.
Henri Huber came in 129th (19:27), Indigo Gould 141st (20:09.7), Dustin Hines 149th (21:19.5), Rylen Kruse 153rd (23:51.9) and Alex Lott 154th (30:30.7).
The East Jefferson boys came in 12th as a team. Winning the boys race was The Bush School.
