STATE 1B GIRLS BASKETBALL: Neah Bay will play for state championship

Red Devils knock off Mount Vernon Christian in semifinals

SPOKANE — The Neah Bay girls basketball team got its revenge Friday.

Today, the Red Devils go for the 1B girls state championship that slipped through their grasp last year.

Neah Bay crushed Mount Vernon Christian in the semifinals 64-41 to make it to Saturday’s championship game. The game will be held at 3 p.m. and can be viewed on nfhsnetwork.com.

Neah Bay (22-1), ranked No. 1 in Ratings Percentage Index and seeded No. 1 in the tournament, will play No. 2 seed Mossyrock (22-3), which beat Inchelium 58-33 in the other semifinals.

Neah Bay and Mount Vernon Christian played in the state championship last year, with the Hurricanes coming from behind to nip the Red Devils 37-33.

This year, Neah Bay left no doubt which was the better team, blowing out the Hurricanes 38-19 in the second half after holding just a 26-22 lead at the break.

Again, Allie Greene was huge for the Red Devils. Just like she did in the quarterfinals, she hit three 3-pointers in the second half and had 11 points in the final two quarters. She finished the game with four 3-pointers and 14 points.

Ryana Moss had another big game with 17 points, hitting two 3-pointers of her own. The Red Devils had great balance with Angel Halttunen adding nine points, Grace Chartraw eight points and Amber Swan seven points and nine rebounds. Cerise Moss contributed eight rebounds.

Mount Vernon Christian’s Allie Heino had a big game, much as she did last year in the championship, with 25 points and 13 rebounds, but she got very little scoring help from her teammates.
