SPORTS: Wilder starts Firecracker with a bang

PORT ANGELES — Wilder Baseball pulled out some early fireworks as they blew out the Victoria Mariners 11-0 in its opening game of the Dick Brown Memorial Firecracker Classic on Thursday night.

Alex Gillis pitched a complete game shutout in the five-inning mercy rule victory, posting seven strikeouts, three walks and only two hits on the night.

Kyler Morgan went 1-for-2 with two runs, two RBIs and a double to lead the Wilder lineup.

Teammate A.J. Konopaski contributed at the plate as well, going 1-for-2 with a run scored, two RBIs and a double of his own.

Wilder will take on Oak Harbor Legion tonight at 7 p.m. at Port Angeles Civic Field and Sequim at the same time and place Saturday.

The North Olympic Peninsula all-star team can clinch a championship game appearance with wins in each game.

Wilder is going for its 11th Firecracker tournament championship in 12 years.
