LAMAR, Colo. — Lightning and thunderstorm 1, North Olympic 0.
The Colorado weather seems to keep beating the North Olympic 16U softball team at the Babe Ruth World Series.
The good news is that North Olympic is still playing because its loser-out game with Hamburg, Ark., was rained out Thursday night.
“It just poured down rain,” head coach Warren Stevens said.
“We probably had 2 inches of rain on the field. They covered the infield but there was just too much water on the field to play.”
It was also 98 degrees at game time during the rainstorm.
“It has now cooled down to 74 degrees, and it’s 10 p.m. our time,” Stevens said.
The two teams now will play at 9 a.m. PDT today for the right to take on powerhouse Wausau, Wis., at noon.

That winner will play Levittown, N.Y., later today for the right to play Wilson County, N.C., for the World Series championship.
Wausau, the National Division champion, now is 5-1 after losing 2-1 to Levittown on Wednesday and then beating Lodi, Calif., in a loser-out game Thursday.
Wausau beat North Olympic 8-4 earlier in the tournament when the team scored six late runs to come back for the win.
Right now North Olympic just wants to get in its game against Hamburg, which is 3-3 in tournament play.
“Our girls were pretty excited to play [Thursday night],” Stevens said.
“Waiting today might actually help us. If we get a win, the momentum should help us in the other games.”
“We’ll see what happens [today].”
