Sports: Sequim woman places at golf amateurs

BREMERTON — Sequim’s Pat Harrop-Schumacher captured fourth place in the senior division at the 11th Washington State Women’s Amateur Championship on Thursday at Kitsap Golf & Country Club.

Harrop-Schumacher finished 16 strokes out of first place with a three-day total of 83-90-82–255. She just missed third place as Seattle’s Janice Japar shot 255.

It was a two-woman race as Sue Ursino of Sammamish, the defending champion, beat Woodinville’s Ann Swanson, a two-time champion, in a playoff.

Both finished the 54-hole regular tournament with identical scores of 239. Ursino made a birdie putt on the 18th hole to force a playoff. She won on the second hole of the playoff.

Other area golfers also finished strongly.
