SEQUIM — The Sequim High School football team bounced back from a loss last weekend to win its Nisqually League opener 27-7 over Orting.
The Wolves (1-1) went into halftime tied 7-7 on Friday, but stiffened up their defense and began to put the ball into the end zone.
“We played the way in the second half that we thought we should play,”‘ Sequim head coach Bill Anderson said after the game.
Steilacoom 60, Chimacum 0
STEILACOOM — The Sentinels handed the Cowboys a Nisqually League loss on Friday night.
Chimacum quarterbacks Arlo Evasick and Brad Martin were harassed throughout the game by the Steilacoom defense, which registered 12 sacks.
Ty Mudge led the Cowboys (0-2) on the ground with 59 yards on nine carries, but Evasick and Martin combined for a total of 15 rushes for minus-20 yards.
Mudge also had three receptions for 30 yards.
“We managed to sneak a couple here or there,” said Chimacum coach Brian Anderson, who cited penalties and sacks as the major factors behind the Cowboys’ inability to score.
“They were blitzing big time,” Anderson said.
Chimacum will play its home opener against Klahowya on Friday.
Ridgefield 45, Forks 14
RIDGEFIELD — The Spartans, down 17-7 at halftime Friday, were unable to stop the Spudders from pulling away in a Southwest Washington League interdivisional game.
Forks quarterback Mike Foster led the Spartans (0-2) with 23 carries for 113 yards and had one of two Forks touchdowns, on a 30-yard run.
Fernando Contreras had the other score for the Spartans, a 2-yard run, and gained a total of 58 rushing yards on eight carries.
The Spartans were held to 175 total offensive yards.
Ridgefield built on its halftime lead behind Johnny Peru, who rushed 31 times for 216 yards and four touchdowns in the game. He accounted for most of Ridgefield’s 264 offensive yards.
Ridgefield plays in the SWWL Trico Division. Forks plays in the Evergreen Division.
Forks meets White Salmon at Montesano on Friday.
Clallam Bay 24, Neah Bay 14
NEAH BAY — The Bruins defeated their rival despite trailing 14-0 at halftime.
Neah Bay (0-2) was unable to hold on as Clallam Bay (2-0), one of the top-ranked B-8 teams in the state, began to click offensively in the late quarters.
“We had a really slow start,” Clallam Bay coach Andy Ritter said. “In the second half we got it together.”
Adam Lovik had 133 yards on the ground for the Bruins, much of it in the second half. He scored a pair of touchdowns.
Brandon Rodriguez added a touchdown reception for Clallam Bay.
Neah Bay quarterback Tim Greene had five completions on 12 attempts for 33 yards with no interceptions. He opened the game’s scoring on a 21-yard run and finished with 58 yards on 11 carries.
On Friday, Clallam Bay travels to Lake Quinault while Neah Bay plays at Lummi of Bellingham.
Taholah 44, Quilcene 22
TAHOLAH — The Rangers were defeated in their season opener by the Chitwhins on Friday in eight-man play.
