SEQUIM — The four Sequim Wolf Pack youth football teams made a clean sweep, winning each of their games Saturday.
The Sequim Purple teams swept three teams from Neah Bay while Sequim Gold beat Port Angeles Green.
The Purple prep team (ages 6-8) defeated Neah Bay 6-0 while JV (ages 9-10) beat Neah Bay 27-6 and the Purple varsity team (ages 11-12) nipped Neah Bay 12-6 by scoring in the final two minutes of the game.
The varsity Gold team defeated Port Angeles Green 12-6 at Civic Field in Port Angeles.
“Neah Bay is a great opponent,” Sequim Purple head varsity coach Rex Lott said.
“The [Neah Bay] kids play smart, are well coached, and are a tough team to beat. We were lucky to walk away with a win.”
This Saturday the three Purple teams will play at Civic Field against Port Angeles White.
The varsity Gold team, meanwhile, hosts its first home game against Forks at noon.
PT teams sweep
PORT TOWNSEND — The Port Townsend Braves youth football teams swept the visiting Port Angeles Future Riders Saturday at Memorial Field.
The Braves A squad (10-12 year olds), coming off a loss the previous weekend, bounced back with a vengeance with over 500 yards of total offense for a 49-14 win.
The Braves started off with a 70-yard Detrius Kelsall run for a score followed by a Berkley Hill extra point.
On the first play of the next possession, Carson Marx scored on a 60-yard run.
The defense was stellar, holding Port Angeles to less then 30 yards of offense in the first half.
On the next possession for the Braves, Domenick Zack hit Hill for a 70-yard touchdown pass.
The Riders could not stop the high-powered offense of the Braves as the following possessions resulted in a 30-yard run for Ricky Berg and a 15-yard score for Carson Marx.
The defense of the Braves added its own points when Jacob Boucher picked up a fumble and ran 30 yards for a score.
Isaiah Mason added a 50-yard pass from Zack to the scoreboard, and Zack took a 72 yard run into the end zone for the final score of the game.
The Braves’ defense, led by Austin Widmer and Jonathan Smith, put pressure on the quarterback all game, resulting in four sacks and six tackles for loss.
Isaiah Mason recorded his second interception of the season for the Braves.
The mercy rule was reached in the third quarter as the Braves took a 35-point lead and the scoreboard was shut off.
The Braves face the visiting Neah Bay Warriors this Saturday at Memorial field.
Kickoff is noon for the C squad, 2 p.m. for the B team and 4 p.m. for the A squad.
