SILVERDALE – Class 2A Sequim and 1B Neah Bay will share the same field this coming Saturday as the state prep football playoffs go into high gear.
The Sequim Wolves (10-1), who won their first-ever state game last Saturday night by beating No. 10-ranked Burlington-Edison (8-3) 34-32 in the first round, now will take on perennial state power and No. 2-ranked Lynden (10-1) this Saturday night in the quarterfinals.
The No. 2-ranked Neah Bay Red Devils (10-0), meanwhile, easily won a preliminary state game 50-0 against King’s Way Christian last Friday night to earn a quarterfinal spot opposite Lake Quinault (7-2) this Saturday.
Both the Wolves and Red Devils will play at Silverdale Stadium. The Neah Bay-Lake Quinault game begins at 2 p.m. while the historic Sequim-Lynden contest starts at 7 p.m.
The Wolves, who have had some very close heartbreaking losses in the state first round the past three years, turned the tables around on Burlington-Edison on Saturday night at North Kitsap High School in Poulsbo.
Sequim won 34-32 by stopping a two-point conversion as time expired.
The Red Devils, meanwhile, barely worked up a sweat for the quarterfinals after playing just half a game against King’s Way Christian at Silverdale Stadium last Friday.
The game was halted at halftime because of the mercy rule and a 50-point Neah Bay lead.
In an earlier game this year, the Red Devils beat the Lake Quinault Elks 38-16.
The Elks advanced to the quarterfinals after beating North Olympic Peninsula team Crescent 64-29 in a state preliminary-round game Friday at Tumwater High School.
