LAKEWOOD — Jayson Brocklesby and Alex Barry combined for 30 points as the Sequim boys basketball team stayed alive in postseason play.
The Wolves (18-3), ranked No. 8 in state, defeated Steilacoom 62-47 in a 2A West Central District loser-out game Wednesday night at Lakes High School.
Sequim now takes on Franklin Pierce in the district quarterfinals tonight at Lakes starting at 6 p.m.
The winner earns an automatic regional berth while the loser plays for the final No. 6 seed to regionals Saturday.
The winner No. 6 to regionals, loser-out game is set for 2:30 p.m. at Curtis High School in University Place.
Today’s winner probably will play state No. 3-ranked Renton in the district semifinals Saturday. That game starts at 8 p.m. at Foss High School in Tacoma.

Sequim entered the district tournament as the Olympic League’s No. 2 seed to districts after the Wolves conceded the No. 1 seed to fellow Olympic League co-champion Olympic.
The Trojans open district play tonight in the quarterfinals against state No. 9-ranked White River, after the Hornets blasted North Kitsap 55-32 in the first round Wednesday night.
Sequim, in the first round Wednesday, had little trouble against Steilacoom.
The Wolves led 13-4 after one quarter, 27-14 at the break and 42-27 going into the final period.
Brocklesby sparked the Wolves with 15 points and nine rebounds while Barry added 15 points and two blocked shots.
Gabe Carter also scored in double figures with 10 points. The all-star senior also dished out a team-high seven assists, grabbed six rebounds and had two blocked shots and two steals.
Anthony Pinza, meanwhile, netted nine points while bringing down four boards and dishing out three assists.
Terrence Holmes led Steilacoom with 22 points while Deshawn Habte added 16.

Port Townsend 42, Overlake 38
REDMOND — The Redskins’ season for both the boys and girls basketball teams just keeps getting better and better.
Following the boys, who won a loser-out 1A Tri-District game Tuesday night at home, the girls held off Overlake there in a Tri-District loser-out game Wednesday night.
Both Port Townsend teams are rolling after winning two loser-out games each.
The two programs have at least one more loser-out game each, talk about pressure, with the girls taking on Blaine at Mountlake Terrace High School today starting at 4:30 p.m.
Today’s winner advances to play Eatonville on Saturday at Lynnwood High School at 4:30 p.m.
Saturday’s winner goes to regionals as the Tri-District No. 4 or 5 team while the loser is out.
Against Overlake, the Redskins (13-9) built a 15-8 lead in the first quarter and then held on for the win, getting outscored 30-27 in the final three quarters.
Jewel Johnson sparked Port Townsend with a game-high 15 points while Gabby Hossack and Codi Hallinan added eight points each.
Johnson and Hossack also pulled down six boards each while Johnson dished out five assists.
Hallinan, a shot-blocking machine, earned another six blocked shots in this game, and she pulled down five rebounds.
Enani Rubio had a game-high six steals for the Redskins while Irina Lyons scored six points on 2 of 3 scoring from beyond the 3-point line.
Overlake fell to 11-11 on the season.
