KINGSTON — Sequim missed out on a chance to knock Kingston out of sole possession of first place in the Olympic League baseball standings after surrendering six runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to lose 12-11 on Friday.
The Wolves (3-4 in league, 5-5 overall) struck big in the first inning on just one hit, using four walks, a hit batter, a wild pitch and an error to score five runs.
Sequim then scored two in the second and two in the fourth to take a 9-0 lead over the Buccaneers.
Drew Rickerson was 2-for-4 and scored four runs for the Wolves, while teammate Matt Bereiter was 3-for-4 and Jason Baker 2-for-4 with two runs.
The Wolves then let Kingston back into the game by allowing multiple walks and timely hits.
Sequim walked 13 batters in the game, and have handed out 23 free passes in their past two contests.
In the seventh inning Sequim allowed four walks, including a bases-loaded freebie to Kingston’s Drew Gorman to win the game.
Sequim gets another shot at the Bucs (5-1, 5-2) at home on Monday.

Klahowya 7, Port Townsend 4
PORT TOWNSEND — Redskins starter Ryan Aumock was chased off the mound after a two-run home run by Klahowya’s Eric Eley stretched the Eagle lead to 6-2 in the fourth inning.
Eley then shut down the Redskins in the seventh to earn the save for Klahowya.
“We keep knocking on the door, we just have to come on in,” Redskins coach Tom Webster said.
Ryan Unbedacht was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs for the Redskins.
Port Townsend (2-5, 3-5)has a chance for revenge in Monday’s tilt at Klahowya.

Dillon Dukek and Ivan Evasick combined to pitch five scoreless innings, and Landon Cray and Chance Eldridge each had three hits in the mercy-rule win.

PORT ANGELES — Future UW hurler Andy Smith kept the Riders (3-3, 3-4) on their heels for most of Saturday’s matchup of Olympic League 3As.
The senior left-hander struck out nine in six innings of work to lead the Vikings (5-2, 6-3) to victory, giving up just three hits and two runs.
“We were competing the whole time, and that’s where we have to go when we are trying to turn this ship around,” Port Angeles Bob Withrow said.
“We just need to get a little bit better at the plate. But we [went against] a lefty that was dealing, so what are you going to do?”
Danny Romero earned the loss on the mound for the Riders, going five innings with five strikeouts and three earned runs.
Things don’t get any easier for the Riders, with back-to-back games against league-leading Kingston on Tuesday (home) and Wednesday (road).

SILVERDALE — Maddy Zbaraschuk blasted two home runs, her third and fourth of the season, as the Wolves cruised to an easy Olympic League win.
Chelsea Winfield tossed three shutout innings to earn the win, while also going 2-for-4 at the plate.

TACOMA — Shelby Napiontek claimed the highest finish for Port Angeles at the Tacoma Invitational at Lincoln Bowl, a third-place finish in the high jump with a leap of four feet, 10 inches.
John Christian finished eighth in the 1,600 meter race with a time of four minutes, 34 seconds for the Riders, and Alison Maxwell was 25th in the girls 1,600 with a time of 5:59.8.
Setting personal-best marks at the Invitational were Troy Martin with a toss of 123-6 in the javelin and a throw of 136-8 in the discus and Katie Moorman with a throw of 30-2.25 in the shot put.
