Sports: Sequim beats North Mason in league play

BELFAIR — The Sequim High School baseball team continued to pour it on as the Wolves beat North Mason 5-3 in Nisqually League play on Thursday.

Shaun Johnson (2-0) came on in the fifth inning in relief for Wolves starter Caleb Grubb, giving up just one hit with three strikeouts to pick up the win.

Grubb led the Wolves (5-3 in league, 8-4 overall) offensively, going 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

“The game wasn’t as close as the score showed it was,” Wolves head coach Dan Perry said. “We hit the ball hard all game, just right at people.”

Behind Grubb were Chad Wagner (2-for-4, double), Wyatt Short (1-for-1, two RBIs) and John Coon (1-for-4, single).

Sequim will host Life Christian today at 4 p.m.

Port Angeles 4, Shelton 1

SHELTON — The Roughriders crept one step closer to the postseason as they picked up a win on just four hits in Narrows League play on Thursday.

“We initially played the game under protest,” Riders head coach Bob Withrow said after umpires failed to show up for the game. “We won though, so I called the protest off.”

Anderson picked up the slack on offense for the Riders, going 1-for-4 with a triple and three RBIs.

Behind Anderson were Brandon Kenney (1-for-3, double) and Greg Dickman (1-for-1, single).

Port Angeles (8-4 in league, 13-4 overall) will host Central Kitsap at noon on Staurday at Civic Field.
