SEQUIM — Sequim and Port Townsend played an evenly matched boys soccer game in a 0-0 tie in nonleague action Thursday night.
“It was a typical early season game,” Sequim coach Dave Brasher said.
“Port Townsend played really well. We have some things to work on.”
Port Townsend junior goalkeeper Brian LeMaster and senior midfielder Harrison Hodgson especially played well for the Redskins, Brasher said.
“Excellent soccer was played by both teams after the rain stopped,” Port Townsend coach Steve Shively said.
The Sequim field was slick and fast, though, Shively said.
LeMaster kept the Redskins in the game with seven sure goal saves, Shively said.
“LeMaster had an stand-out performance.”
Port Townsend displayed strong offense in the early in the match.
“We provided excellent offensive pressure midway through the first half and starting the second half, thanks to commanding midfield play by Harrison Hodgson,” Shively said.
Sequim came alive and kept the Redskins on the defensive late into the second half.
“Thanks to inspired defense by Xavie Frank, Michael Shively and John Reid, we were able to hold off the Wolves’ offensive assault,” Shively said.
The Wolves outshot the Redskins 10-7.
Port Townsend played a nonleague game at Coupeville on Saturday, results unavailable.
Forks 1, Montesano 0
FORKS — Omar Estrada scored in the eighth minute to give the Spartans their first victory of the year Friday in SWL-Evergreen Division action.
Forks improved to 1-1 in league and 1-2 overall.
Estrada’s goal was a chip shot that came right in under the bar, and that was all the Spartans needed.
Forks outshot Montesano 17-12 as the game had lots of offense but not much in finished shots.
The Spartans next play in a league game at Rochester on Tuesday night.
Port Angeles 2, Klahowya 2
SILVERDALE — The Roughriders have two ties now in their first three games of the season.
Port Angeles broke through with another win when the Riders blanked an undermanned Chimacum team 8-0 at Civic Field on Saturday. See more on this game in Monday’s editions.
On Thursday, Anthony Brandon scored both goals for the Riders in the nonleague match between the two Olympic League teams Thursday night.
The first came in the 26th minute to tie it up at 1-all on Hayden McCartney’s assist and the second came in the 75th minute on an unassisted goal to give Port Angeles a 2-1 lead.
The Eagles, though, came right back and scored in the 76th minute to tie it up for good.
Austin Sargent scored Klahowya’s first goal in the 23rd minute.
Brandon was named the offensive player of the match while Vincent Ioffrida was picked the defensive player of the match while McCartney received transition player of the match.
The Riders (1-0-2 overall) hosted Chimacum on Saturday in nonleague action, results not available by press time.
The Port Angeles JV team blanked the Eagles 1-0.

Sequim 11, Bremerton 5
SEQUIM — The Wolves earned their second victory of the year Friday during a short rain break.
Sequim improved to 2-1 on the year by beating Bremerton 11-5 in nonleague action.
Jake Hudson grabbed his first pitching win by holding back the Knights in the final four innings.
Sequim never trailed, leading 3-0 after one inning, 5-3 at the end of four innings and 6-4 after five.
Hudson (1-0) gave up six hits and three earned runs in the four innings while fanning two batters and walking three.
Starting pitcher Tyler Campbell gave up just one hit and one earned run in the first three innings while striking out three and walking two.
Johnston top hitter
Kyler Johnston carried the big bat for the Wolves, going 3 for 4 while scoring three runs and hitting a run in.
Karsten Wake and Hudson both went 2 for 4 at the plate. Hudson slugged a double and hit two in while Wake had an RBI and scored a run.
Tyler Forshaw went 2 for 5 with two runs scored and a stolen base while Brett Wright was 1 for 2 with an RBI, run, stolen base and two walks.

PORT ANGELES — The Wolves beat rival Roughriders in their first match of the year on a wet Port Angeles Golf Club course Friday.
Sequim senior Hailey Estes was the match medalist with a score of 48 in nine holes.
Sophomore Dana Fox led the Riders with a score of 55.
Other Rider scores were Sydney Rauch 60, Kelly Winn 70, Chloe Brown 68 and Brittany McBride 63.
Other Sequin scores were Maddy Fisher 69, Elisa Sallee 57, Caitlin Stofferhahn 60 and Brianna Kettel 65.
