Sports: Sequim alumni tourney set later this month

SEQUIM — The sixth annual Sequim High School boys basketball alumni tournament is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 27.

Teams that want to register must do so by Monday with the full roster filled out. Complete teams need at least six players. Individual players can register and be assigned to teams.

“It’s a lot of fun,” Art Green, one of the organizers of the tournament, said about the event.

“We do it to keep a nice little family atmosphere here for the former players and coaches,” Green said.

Last year there were six teams with a total of 40 to 50 players at the tourney. Some former athletes come from all over the country but most live close.

“We’re hoping to have another good turnout,” Green said. Green, who coaches the Sequim High School junior varsity boys basketball team, graduated from Sequim in 1991 and played for former longtime coach Larry Hill. Green also plays in the tournament.

Hill is another organizer of the event.

The tournament starts at 11:30 a.m. in the high school gym and concludes with a 6 p.m. game of the current varsity team against a squad of alumni players made up that day by Hill and Green.

The final game will be a jamboree-style contest.

To register, call Green at 360-681-3252 or Hill at 360-683-7093.
