Sports: Riders romp

PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles High School girls basketball team romped to an easy 60-19 nonleague win over Lakes on Tuesday.

Trish Buckingham led the Roughriders (5-2) with 17 points and pulled down eight rebounds.

Missy Minor added 11 for the Riders and Sarah Bussell had 10.

Port Angeles led 34-8 at the half.

Brianna Allen had eight assists and three points for the Riders and Nicole Morgan had five points and four steals.

Lakes is a Class 3A school located in Lakewood.

Crescent 51, North Beach 26

ABERDEEN — Tiffany Winters ripped the nets for 26 points to spark the Class B Loggers over 1A North Beach at the Wishkah Tournament on Tuesday.

Crescent finished the two-day tournament with a two-game sweep. On Monday, the Loggers defeated host team Wishkah Valley 52-41.

The Loggers, now 6-2 on the year, play the North Kitsap JV there on Friday and host Kentview Christian on Saturday in nonleague games.

Against North Beach, Ruth Wilhelm added 16 points and had a game-high 15 rebounds. North Beach managed only 13 boards the entire game.

The Loggers led 29-15 at halftime and never looked back.

Wilhelm led Crescent against Wishkah with 22 points while Winters added 17. Wilhelm finished as the high scorer despite fouling out.

Quilcene 46, Bush 30

QUILCENE — The Rangers outscored Bush 15-3 in the third quarter in a nonleague win on Tuesday.

Erin Burlingame led Quilcene with 19 points.

Burlingame also had 14 steals and six blocks.

Kara Weed and Blair Bloomfield were the only other scorers for the Rangers (5-4).

Weed had 14 points and 11 rebounds and Bloomfield scored 13 and pulled in 17 boards.

The Rangers begin league play on Jan. 9 against Neah Bay

Boys Basketball Crescent 58, Wishkah 46

ABERDEEN — The Loggers beat host team Wishkah Valley at the Wishkah Tournament on Tuesday night to go 1-1 in the tourney.

Phil Mair led the Loggers (5-4) with 23 points while Isaiah Bower sank 17 and Keith O”Neel added 12.

Crescent led 30-22 at halftime and 41-31 going into the fourth quarter.

Neah Bay 87, Lake Quinault 27

ABERDEEN — The Red Devils wrapped up play at the Wishkah Valley Tournament with a win on Tuesday.

Joe Chartraw scored 18 points for Neah Bay and also had seven assists and six rebounds.

Ernie Grimes had 16 points for the Red Devils (5-1).

Neah Bay led 34-5 at the end of the first quarter.

Jayme Yallup had 12 points for the Red Devils and Tim Greene and C.J. Heilman each poured in 10.

Sequim 66, Bellarmine Prep 49

LYNDEN — The Wolves will play Kentwood today in the championship game at the Lynden Christmas Tournament.

Brady Marunde rained 27 points on Tuesday against Bellarmine Prep to help Sequim (4-1) advance to the finals.

Ryan Rutherford scored 15 off the bench for the Wolves and had five assists.

Marunde also pulled in 10 boards.

Matt Finitzer scored 13 and James Brabant had eight points and seven rebounds.

Monday Lake Quinault 67, Crescent 59

ABERDEEN — The Elks beat the Loggers in the first round of the Wishkah Tournament.

Isaiah Bower led Crescent with 21 points while Seth Williams was right behind with 20 and Keith O’Neel chipped in with 14.

Neah Bay 84, Wishkah Valley 23

ABERDEEN — Joe Chartraw sank 25 points to lead the Red Devils to the easy win over the host team at the Wishkah Tournament.

Anthony Lawrence added 12 points in the game.
