Sports: Riders lose to Olympic

PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles High School volleyball team lost to Olympic 3-2 (19-25, 25-21, 23-25, 25-14, 15-8) in a tough Narrows League match on Wednesday night.

Jessica Holman led the Roughriders with five aces and Kerri McGoff had 11 digs.

Brooke Helpenstell chipped in three blocks and eight kills for the Riders.

Cross Country Port Angeles wins 3-way

PORT ANGELES — The Roughrider boys and girls both dominated at a Narrows League double-dual meet with Gig Harbor and Shelton on Wednesday.

Dan Lucero finished the 4.7-kilometer Robin Hill Country Park course in 16 minutes and 30 seconds to take first place for the Port Angeles boys.

Josh Brown finished in third (16:46) and Jon Dryver took fourth (17:12) for the Riders.

Aaron Jaksha (17:32), Ross Wait (17:37), Mickey Burnett (17:43) and Brad Ahrndt (17:47) all finished in the top 10 for Port Angeles.

For the girls, freshman Chaya Branham (20:32) and senior Tracy Kuhn (20:45) took first and second place, respectively, for the Riders.

Branham finished second to Kuhn at the Seaside Invitational on Saturday.

Tami Rife (21:08) finished in fourth and Chelsea Officer (21:12) took fifth for the Riders.

Sequim girls win

STEILACOOM — The Wolves beat Steilacoom and North Mason on the girls side of a Nisqually League race on Tuesday.

Stephanie Marcy took second for Sequim in 22 minutes and 24 seconds on the 3-mile course.

Tara McCallum (22:59) and Jennifer Trip (23:23) finished fourth and fifth for the Wolves.

On the boys side, Sequim finished second to North Mason.

Antoine Clifford (19:05) finished in fourth place and Alex Smythe (19:32) and Steve Faton (19:38) took sixth and seventh for the Wolves.
