SPORTS: Registration closes for 2010 North Olympic Discovery Marathon

PORT ANGELES — Runners procrastinating about entering the popular North Olympic Discovery Marathon may have missed their chance.

Registration for the marathon and half-marathon closed Monday, and the Olympic Medical Center’s 10-kilometer and 5-kilometer races are quickly filling up.

“Registration is still open for the 5K, 10K and Kids’ Marathon,” race director Larry Little said.

“But it looks like they will close out, too, so participants need to register as soon as possible. We don’t like saying no.”

There’s a slight possibility a short two-day registration period will open later for the marathon but Little cautioned that runners shouldn’t get their hopes up.

“We have been getting a lot of e-mails from people over the weekend about how much they want to register for the marathon,” Little said.

The marathon is limited to 1,500. Little ordered that many T-shirts last December. Registration would close when the supply of T-shirts ran out.

That happened last weekend.

“They are gone,” he said about the T-shirts. “We are well ahead in registration of last year.”

There will be more than 2,000 race participants in all, including the 5K and 10K races.

Little is pondering ordering more T-shirts and re-opening marathon registration for two days.

But for now registration is closed.

The eighth annual North Olympic Discovery Marathon is scheduled for Sunday, June 6.

Visit www.nodm.com for more information or to register for the 10K and 5K races.
