SPORTS: Quilcene beats Clallam Bay; other prep volleyball reports

QUILCENE — Quilcene defeated Clallam Bay in 1B volleyball action at Quilcene High School.

The Rangers victory came in three sets, 25-18, 25-17, 15-15.

Quilcene’s senior captain Kiani Clissold was 20 for 21 serving on Monday and had seven aces, eight kills, four digs and one block.

Fellow captain Sammy Rae had three kills and one dig one dig, and sophomore Elysah Schryver was 10 for 13 serving with five aces and 1 block.

The Rangers also enjoyed big contributions from a trio of freshmen: Bailey Kieffer had seven kills; Allison Jones had one ace, one dig and 18 assists; and Katie Bailey served 10 for 13 and had four aces and five kills.

“Pre-league, we are really focusing on serving tough, with jump spike and jump float serves, which is lowering our serving percentage some, but definitely will pay off once we hit league,” Quilcene coach Joni Crowell said.

“We are down one of our starters and so a few of the girls have been playing different positions than they are used to, but they are adjusting and coming together as a team.

“The teamwork is especially important to me this year, and it [is] another point we are emphasizing.”

The Rangers (2-0) host Mary M. Knight today.

CHIMACUM — The Cowboys earned their first win of the season against the Cruisers in Nisqually League play.

Chimacum won in three sets 25-18, 27-25, 25-17.

“I am really happy with the how well the girls are doing playing as a team,” Chimacum coach Sally Dankert said of Monday’s match.

Lauren Thacker was strong at the net for the Cowboys with 14 kills and a block.

Setter Megan Dukek had 30 assists, four kills and 18 digs and two aces; Kiersten Snyder had six kills, 14 digs and an ace; Audrey Thacker had three blocks, four kills, 14 digs, and one ace; Olivia Baird had four kills and 15 digs; and Alyssa Hamilton had 12 digs, a kill and three aces.

Freshman Taylor Carthum stepped in to help serve in the third set and was perfect at the line.

Chimacum (1-2) hosts Bellevue Christian on Thursday.

Crescent 3, Sequim JV 1

SEQUIM — The Loggers won in four sets over the Wolves 25-20, 21-25, 25-16, 25-21.

“After a tough defeat to Lake Quinault last week, we out and played well,” Crescent coach Alex Baker said of Monday’s match.

Jad Blazek led the Loggers with 9 for 10 serving, three aces, four tips and four kills.

Shannon Williams was a perfect 10 for 10 on serves with an ace, five tips and 12 kills.

Jenny Criss was 18 for 18 serving with two tips and a kill.

“It was a good match all the way around,” Baker said.

Crescent (1-1) plays at Taholah on Thursday.
