PORT TOWNSEND — After going winless in more than two years, the Port Townsend volleyball team is on a roll after winning its second match of the past week.
The Redskins opened Olympic League play by burying Bremerton 3-0 by the lopsided scores of 25-14, 25-17, 25-14.
Port Townsend now is 1-0 in league and 2-6 overall.
“I can’t express how proud of this team I am,” Port Townsend coach Nettie Hawkins said.
“After [Tuesday night’s] game, I’m grinning from ear to ear. The girls were all on the same page, were jelled together and really pulled through for another win.
“It is so rewarding to see this after they have worked so hard. We started off league play just the way we wanted to.”
Abby McGuire led the way with eight assists and seven digs while Trish Reeves had three kills, two blocks and two aces.
Enani Rubio, meanwhile, helped out with three kills and three aces while Megan Lee ended up with nine digs, two aces and 100 percent serving.
Other highlights went to Avery Selisch with two kills and two aces while Codi Hallinan had three aces and 100 percent serving.
Chimacum 3, Seattle Christian 2
CHIMACUM — The Cowboys held off Warriors in a hotly contested five-game set.
Chimacum won by the scores of 25-18, 25-23, 21-25, 17-25, 15-6.
Lauren Thacker was deadly at the net and in the back row with 14 kills, four blocks, 12 digs and two aces.
Megan Dukek had a balanced match for the Cowboys with 16 assists and digs each. She also served up six aces.
In other highlights, Sienna Madary earned 14 digs while Olivia Baird put down eight kills and had nine digs.
Alyssa Hamilton added five kills, 12 digs and three aces while Audrey Thacker had six kills and two blocks.
In addition, Kiersten Snyder dished out seven assists and had two kills, and Lexie Cray earned eight digs.
The Cowboys, now 2-4 in the Nisqually League, next play Life Christian on Monday.
Boys Tennis
Port Angeles 6, North Mason 1
BELFAIR — Kevin Herzog won a competitive match at No. 1 singles to lead the Roughriders in the Olympic League match.
“I thought Kevin relied on his experience and showed a lot of poise today,” Port Angeles coach Brian Gundersen said.
Also winning at singles was Nick Fritschler at No. 3, beating Jason Perron 6-3, 6-3.
The Riders swept all four doubles matches on their way to the win.
Leading the way was the No. 1 team of Marcus and Michael Konopaski, who beat John Phillips and Ty Garland 6-0, 6-1.
At No. 2, Alex Brown and Jeremy Choe defeated Ben Cook and Hector Schope 6-4, 6-0; and at No. 3, Hayden Kays-Erdmann and Daniel Manwell defeated Avery Flowers and Jarod Curtis, 6-1, 6-0.
Jace Bohman and Micah Needham wrapped it all up by beating Donny Plankenhorn and Jake Urdahl 6-4, 6-2.
Now Port Angeles hosts Kingston today at 3:30 p.m.
