SPORTS: Port Townsend, Sequim wrestling teams split league double-dual meets

POULSBO — Port Townsend had four double winners at an Olympic League double-dual wrestling match at North Kitsap High School on Wednesday night.

The Redskins, giving up a total of eight forfeits because of a lack of competitors, still were able to split the matches.

The Redskins beat host North Kitsap 37-33 while losing to the Roughriders 54-30.

Two-time state placer Brett Johnson led the Redskins with two pins at 160 pounds.

Johnson pinned North Kitsap’s Allan Dunlap in 1:51, and he also won by fall against Port Angeles.

Also earning wins for Port Townsend were Justin Mead at 112 pounds, Addison Harper at 125 and Mitchell Harper at 130.

Addison Harper won a close 6-5 decision against Donny Stameris of North Kitsap and by forfeit against the Riders.

Mitchell Harper won by a major 12-3 decision over North Kitsap’s Matt Moriatti and by forfeit against Port Angeles.

Mead won by fall to Brian Hegert of the Riders and by forfeit to the Vikings.

Other Port Townsend winners against North Kitsap were Tyler Westlake at 152 pounds, winning by fall in 1:15 over Joey LaCourt; Mark Herr by fall in 1:02 over Brandon Gerken at 171; and Mitch Thomas by forfeit at 215.

The other winner against Port Angeles was Ryan Unbedacht at 135 pounds as he beat Nick Tweeter by fall in 1:29.

Sequim splits double-dual

SILVERDALE — The Wolves were overwhelmed by a powerhouse Olympic wrestling squad but defeated Bremerton in a Olympic League double-dual meet at Olympic High School on Wednesday.

Host Olympic beat Sequim 58-18 with eight pins while the Wolves shaded the Bremerton Knights 40-36 to improve to 2-1 in league.

Sequim had two pins and a major decision against the Trojans.

Kenny Henning, 145 pounds, and Mike Bereiter at 160 won pins while Dakota Hinton beat Derrel Daugs 14-0 for a major decision.

The Wolves earned three pins against Bremerton with Zach Sisco (130), Tommy Sund (189) and Clay Charlie (215) all scoring six points each.

Sequim now travels to Franklin Pierce in Tacoma for the Cardinal Classic on Saturday.
