The dream matchup between the Port Townsend and Chimacum girls basketball teams with a state berth in the balance won’t happen.
The two teams were headed to a showdown Saturday until the Redskins lost a do-or-die game in the tri-district tournament Wednesday night.
The Cowboys did their part by winning Wednesday, and they are now one victory away from a state berth.
King’s shaded the Redskins 51-42 while the Cowboys beat Bush High School 48-38.

EDMONDS — The Redskins were eliminated from the Class 1A tri-district tournament with a road loss to the Knights on Wednesday.
Trailing by six, 25-19, at halftime, Port Townsend couldn’t cut into King’s lead in the second half.
Port Townsend (12-11) senior Sophie Wilson led the Redskins with 12 points. Classmates Ilsa Barrett had 10 and Alyx Coppenrath seven for Port Townsend.
It was the final contest for Redskin seniors Barrett, Coppenrath, Wilson, Megan Reinhart and Liya Rubio.

SEATTLE — Chimacum advanced to a winner-to-state Class 1A tri-district affair against King’s with a solid win over the Emerald City League runner-up in the tri-district consolation bracket on Wednesday night.
The Cowboys took control with a 17-6 second quarter to open up a 28-14 halftime advantage over Bush.
Chimacum pushed the lead to 20 in the third quarter before “they started to press and we got a little careless with the ball,” Chimacum coach Jim Eldridge said.
“We settled down, though, and made some key baskets down the stretch.”
Eldridge singled out a 3-pointer by leading scorer Jaime Friedrich, and big buckets by Sam Benner and Kelsey Brown in the fourth quarter.
Friedrich hit for 20 points for the Cowboys and teammate Robyn Garing had seven.
Saturday’s contest against King’s starts at 12:45 p.m. at Mountlake Terrace High School.

Boys Basketball La Conner 51, No. 9 Quilcene 46
PUYALLUP — Quilcene fell into the loser’s bracket of the Class 2B Tri-district Tournament with a loss to the Braves on Tuesday night.
The game was tied 23-23 at halftime but La Conner took the upper hand on the Rangers (18-4) with a 12-6 third-quarter spurt.
Quilcene turned up its offense in the fourth quarter but it wasn’t enough for a comeback.
Chris Bacchus led Quilcene with 17 points and Nate Burlingame added 14.
The Rangers will face familiar Sea-Tac League foe Tacoma Baptist in a winner-to-state, loser-out contest on Friday at 3 p.m. at Chief Leschi High School in Puyallup.
Quilcene split two contests with Tacoma Baptist this season with both teams winning on the road.
