SPORTS: Port Angeles softball team shuts out North Kitsap 10-0; other prep reports

PORT ANGELES — Stacy Webb pitched a two-hitter as the Port Angeles softball team opened the season with a victory.

Rain and stormy weather has kept the Roughriders off the field until now but it took only five innings for them to pound North Kitsap 10-0 on Monday at Dry Creek Elementary School.

Webb struck out five and gave up no walks to go along with the two hits.

The Riders blew open the game with five runs in the second inning for a 6-0 lead. They scored three in the third and ended it on the 10-run mercy rule with a run in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Mariah Frazier led Port Angeles at the plate by going 2-for-3 with two doubles, scoring three runs with two RBIs while Meleny Fors was 1-for-3 with a triple, scoring two runs with two RBIs.

Emily Drake scored twice while Kearsten Cox and Katie Loghry scored once each for the Riders.

Port Angeles next hosts Port Townsend on Wednesday at Dry Creek.
