PORT ANGELES — The “Battle of the Stacys” went to Port Angeles’ Stacy Webb in Wednesday’s softball showdown with the Olympic Trojans.
The Roughrider ace outdueled Trojans pitcher Stacey Longmire for seven innings, boosting Port Angeles to a 5-1 Olympic League victory at Dry Creek Elementary School.
Webb took a shutout into the top of the seventh against the Trojans, scattering six hits with nine strikeouts and no walks for a complete-game victory.
Port Angeles bashed its eight hits at crucial moments against Longmire.
Webb helped her own cause with a 2-for-3 day at the plate with two RBIs, while batterymate Hannah Wahto was also 2-for-3 with an RBI and run scored.
“We got the hits to score the runs when we needed them,” Port Angeles coach Buddy Bear said.
“Not only did [our] Stacy do a great job pitching, she got a key hit with two RBIs when we needed them [in the fifth inning].”
Port Angeles (5-1 in league, 6-4 overall) hosts first-place North Mason (7-0, 8-0) on Friday afternoon at Dry Creek Elementary School.
“This was a good test for our next game,” Bear said.

KINGSTON — The Wolves got back on the winning track with an Olympic League win over the Buccaneers on Wednesday.
Demiree Briones went the distance on the mound, striking out 13 and walking none to help the Wolves rebound from a disappointing 8-5 loss to North Mason.
Sequim won despite committing six errors on the game, a bugaboo that had haunted it in Monday’s loss as well.
That was due in large part to a balanced offensive attack led by Lea Hopson 2-for-4 showing with a home run.
“We’ve still got some errors issues to work out,” Sequim coach Mel Hendrickson said. “Otherwise, they rebounded pretty well.”
Sequim (6-1, 9-2) hosts Klahowya next Tuesday.

PORT ANGELES — The Rider bats could do little damage against Trojans ace Joe Stevick in Wednesday’s Olympic League tilt.
“We’re not hitting the ball,” Port Angeles coach Bob Withrow said. “We’re not putting runners on and we’re not scoring runs.”
Port Angeles (3-4, 3-5) heads to Belfair to take on the North Mason Bulldogs today then hosts the same team on Friday at Volunteer Field.

KINGSTON — The Wolves had few answers for Buccaneers starting pitcher Nick Torento on Wednesday.
Matt Bereiter broke up a no-hitter in the 6th but the Wolves failed to do any more damage.
Sequim (4-4 league, 5-7 overall) appeared to have a rally going in the seventh with consecutive singles from Isaac Yamamoto, Drew Rickerson and Matt Reis with no outs.
Unfortunately it only managed one run on a fielder’s choice ground-out.
“It was frustrating,” coach Dave Ditlefsen said. “We were hitting the ball hard, just right at people.”
Alex Gillis pitched a solid 4 2/3 innings before running out of gas in the fifth.
Sequim next hosts Klahowya on April 20.

Girls Golf Sequim 90, Kingston 68
KINGSTON — The Wolves tamed White Horse Golf Course and the Buccaneers in Wednesday’s Olympic League match.
Zoei Zbaraschuk won medalist honors for the 20th straight time in league play, shooting a 42 for 30 modified Stableford points in nine holes of play.
“This was by far the toughest golf course we play all year long,” Sequim coach Garrett Smithson said of White Horse.
“For them to score 90 points is just awesome.”
Sequim will head to the Burlington-Edison Invite next Monday, where it will see some of the best teams in Western Washington.

AGNEW — The Mountaineers fell to the first-place Eagles on Tuesday.
Albert Barnier provided two goals for the Mountaineers (3-3-0), and Julian Walls had 14 saves at goal keeper.
Port Angeles will host Gig Harbor tonight at the Storm King Soccer Fields at 5 p.m.
