SEQUIM — The Sequim Wolves battled their archrivals, the Port Angeles Roughriders, to a draw in nonleague boys soccer action Saturday at Sequim High School.
The Riders remained undefeated at 4-0-3 while the Wolves were able to bounce back from a 3-0 loss to Kingston on Thursday.
The Wolves lost despite outshooting the Buccaneers 12-7 (See story below).
“Both teams had some good chances to score,” Port Angeles coach ChrisSaari said.
“Neither team could convert from close range.”
Backup Port Angeles goalkeeper Austin Fahrenholtz saved a dangerous Sequim shot early in the game.
The Riders missed a close shot in the second half that went over the top of the bar.
Sam Beasley saved the day for the Riders late by stopping a close-range shot off the goal line in a scramble.
Sequim keeper Byron Boots had a solid performance, taking charge of crosses into his box with sure hands.
Port Angeles starting keeper Jack Doryland, recovering from stomach flu, entered the game after 10 minutes and kept a clean stat sheet.
Beasley was named defensive player of the match for Port Angeles. There were no offensive or transition players of the game for the Riders,
Sequim blanked Port Angeles 5-0 in the JV game.

SEQUIM — The Wolves outshot the Buccaneers 12-7 but had problems finding the back of the net in the nonleague game Thursday night.
“We played well but we could not break through and score a goal,” Sequim coach Dave Brasher said.
“The kids just need to break through and score some goals.”
Port Angeles 5, Olympic 2
SILVERDALE — Anthony Brandon scored a hat trick in the first half and added a fourth goal in the second half to keep the Roughriders undefeated on the year.
Port Angeles (4-0-2) ran out to a 4-0 halftime lead and never looking back.
Brandon’s fourth goal gave the Riders a dominate 5-0 lead at the 47th minute.
Abinet Hayden scored in the first half.
Hayden, Tamrat Haskins and Kevan Keegan all had assists.
“We put together some nice passing and combination play in the first half,” coach Chris Saari said.
Brandon made offensive player of the match honors while Nick Ioffrida was selected for defensive player of the game and Bobby Stevenson and Hayden shared transition player honors.
The Port Angeles JV teambeat Olympic 3-0.
Elma 3, Forks 2, OT
ELMA — Every time the Spartans scored a goal, Elma would answer right back.
Abisi Garcia scored in the first minute on an Omar Estrada assist to put Forks ahead but Elma tied it 1-all in the fourth minute.
Geovany Miguel put the Spartans ahead 2-1 in the 47th minute, just to have Elma knot it at 2-2 in the 48th minute.
The teams tied at the end of regulation, but Elma put away the game with a goal in overtime.
“It was a pretty even game,” Forks coach Brian Bowers said.
The teams even tied in shots on goal with 16 each.
Josh Rice did a great job in the net for the Spartans, Bowers said.
North Mason 4, Port Townsend 2
PORT TOWNSEND — The Bulldogs captured the nonleague match between the Olympic League rivals Friday.
North Mason took a two-goal lead at halftime, 3-1, and held on for the win.
Nick Silberman put the Redskins on the board with a goal in the 38th minute on an assist by Tom Gambill.
Harrison Hodgson put the Redskins within 3-2 with an unassisted goal in the 63rd minute.
The Bulldogs put it away on a free kick in the 77th minute.
