PORT ANGELES — Micah Roos was on fire, not losing a single game, to spark the Port Angeles boys tennis team to its third consecutive win Monday.
The Roughriders (3-0) rolled over Olympic League competitor North Mason 7-0, winning all three singles matches and all four doubles competition.
“I couldn’t think of a better way for our home opener to go,” Port Angeles coach Brian Gundersen said.
“Our young guys are really improving, and I’m excited about how the season is progressing.”
No one played better than No. 1 singles player Roos, who won 6-0, 6-0, and was named the player of the match.
“Micah is our best player and it showed today,” Gundersen said. “His opponent is a very good player, but Micah was in control of every part of his game.”
In other singles matches, Connor Reid won 6-1, 6-3 at No. 2 and Hayden McCartney also had an easy time at No. 3 with a score of 6-0, 6-1.
Port Angeles didn’t lose a set during the afternoon as the doubles teams fared as well.
Doubles aces AJ Konopaski and Luis Neumeir won 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1 while No. 2 players Sam Beasely and Derek Crain won 6-3, 6-0.
The No. 3 team of Michael Konopaski and Marcus Konopaski won 6-1, 7-5 while the No. 4 twosome of Troy Gallagher and Tavish Casey won 6-1, 6-4.
The Riders travel to Poulsbo today to take on North Kitsap.
Sequim at 4-0
SEQUIM — The Wolves are a perfect 4-0 in boys tennis after beating Kingston and Chimacum/Port Townsend last week.
On Friday, Sequim beat Chimacum/Port Townsend 6-1 on the road, losing only No. 3 doubles.
Sweeping singles were reed Gunstone, Mallory Maloney and Michael Lee.
Gunstone beat Benny Ryweck 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1 while Maloney defeated Carbs Burelson 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2 and Lee beat Egan Cornachione 6-1, 6-3 at No. 3.
In No. 1 doubles, Sequim’s Joe Puntenney and David Richards beat Perry Pearsall and Ian Norris 6-2, 6-3 while teammates Byron Boots and Waylon Lam defeated Kurt Meagerle and Todd Meagerle 6-0, 6-2 at No. 3.
Evan Hill and Donavan Lee of Sequim won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 against Montag Grace and Daniel Nelson.
Chimacum/Port Townsend’s lone win came at No. 3 doubles with Dylan Holbrook and Luke Copperrath beating Andrew Gunstone and Kelvin Li 7-6 (8-6), 6-3.
The Wolves also beat Kingston 6-0 on the road last Wednesday.
Puntenney won at No. 1 singles while Michael Lee took No. 2 and Richards No. 3.
Maloney and Reed Gunstone, both veterans at the state meet, teamed up to win No. 1 doubles 6-0, 6-0.
The match was a game short because No. 3 doubles did not finish because of rain.
