SPORTS: Port Angeles logs first soccer victory of season

SILVERDALE — David Roberts scored the final two goals of the game while Forrest Epstein had a goal and three assists to spark Port Angeles to its first boys soccer win this season Monday.

The Roughriders ripped Klahowya 4-1 in a nonleague game to improve to 1-4-0 on the year.

The victory came just in time as Port Angeles opens Olympic League action at home Thursday against Bremerton.

Against the Klahowya Eagles, Epstein scored the first goal of the game at the 16th minute on a Tyler Owens assist.

Svetlio Hurd made it 2-0 in the 26th minute on a Epstein assist.

The Riders led 2-0 at halftime and increased that lead to 3-0 in the 47th minute on Roberts’ first goal on Epstein’s assist.

The Eagles scored their first goal but Roberts and Epstein combined to put it away with just 6 minutes to play.

Port Angeles coach Chris Saari picked Epstein and Owens as the transition players of the game and Roberts as the offesnive player of the game.

He named senior goalkeeper Derek Walrath as the defensive player of the game.

“This is Derek’s first game back from an injury, and he took charge of the defense,” Saari said.
