POULSBO — The Port Angeles High School boys basketball team is two wins away from the playoffs after beating North Kitsap on the road Friday night.
“I’m pleased with our rebounding and our defense,” Port Angeles coach Wes Armstrong said. “Anytime you come away with a win at North Kitsap, you are doing well.”
The Roughriders (7-6 in Olympic League, 8-9 overall) beat the Viking 46-27 behind Colin Wheeler’s 12 points.
The Riders trailed 21-18 at halftime but rallied to tie the game at 25-all going into the final period.
Port Angeles held the Vikings to single digits in the first (nine points) and third quarters (four points).
Senior power forward/center Steve Rogers grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds.
Troy Martin had a strong rebounding game, too.
“I was pleased with the return from an injury of Troy Martin,” Armstrong said.

CRESCENT 57, CLALLAM BAY 47
CLALLAM BAY — Dylen Heaward and Josh Anderson combined for 42 points to spark the Loggers past the rival Bruins in North Olympic League action Friday night.
Anderson led everyone with 24 points while Heaward added 18.
Kyle Hess led Clallam Bay with 20 points while Jacob Portnoy was right behind with 19.
It was the youthful Bruins’ final game of the season. Four of Clallam Bay’s seven varsity players are freshmen.
“We played our hearts out but came up short,” Clallam Bay coach Cal Ritter said. “I told our kids that they have nothing to hang their heads about.
“We were competitive almost every game.”
Crescent will take on Muckleshoot Tribal on Tuesday for a spot in the Class 1B Tri-District.

CHIMACUM — Landon Cray and Quinn Eldridge combined for 29 points but it wasn’t enough as the Cowboys fell short in Nisqually League action Friday night.
Chimacum (2-9, 4-15) needed to beat Seattle Christian to have a shot at the playoffs. Now its season will come to an end after Tuesday night’s game at Orting.
“We’ll be more competitive next year,” coach Jim Eldridge said.
Every player but one will return for the Cowboys.
Trevor Richardson was the lone senior on the team. He was honored on Senior Night on Friday.
Cray, a sophomore, finished with a team-high 17 points while Quinn Eldridge sank 12.
The Cowboys were down just by two points in the final minutes but couldn’t get any closer.
“We had to foul them and they kept making their foul shots,” Jim Eldridge said.

BREMERTON — The Trojans, led by Larry Dixon’s 18 points, escaped with a narrow overtime victory over the Redskins on Friday.
Olympic outscored Port Townsend 5-2 in the extra frame, keeping alive its 3A playoff hopes.
Jacob DeBerry led the Redskins with 14 points.

PORT ANGELES — The Roughriders just keep rolling.
Port Angeles, close to the No. 1 seed for Class 3A in the Olympic League, continues to play with teams as it improved to 13-0 in league and 15-2 after demolishing the Vikings on Friday night.
“We are playing real well right now,” coach Mike Knowles said. “We played good defense against North Kitsap.”
Playing good defense is putting it lightly as the Riders held the Vikings to no more than nine points in any quarter and gave up no more than eight points to any North Kitsap player.
Jessica Madison, meanwhile, continued her quest for the all-time school scoring record with 27 points. She also had a team-high 10 assists.
Skylar Jones added 11 points and Alison Knowles led the team with six steals. Taylyn Jeffers had a team-high eight rebounds.
The Riders play next at North Mason on Tuesday.

The win ended both teams’ NOL season, with only the Bruins (3-3, 12-4) moving on to the 1B Tri-District. They will play North Sound Christian next Friday in Mountlake Terrace.
Melissa Willis added 10 points, four rebounds and two steals for Clallam Bay and Courtney Willis 14 points.
