PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles girls tennis team shook off the spring-break rust and held on to defeat North Kitsap 4-3 in a hard-fought Olympic League match-up Wednesday.
“It had been a couple of weeks since we played a match, so I was curious how our girls were going to handle it,” coach Brian Gundersen said.
“I was very impressed with the attitude and intensity the girls came out with.”
Grace Van Rossen and Mallory Hoch (7-5, 2-6, 6-1) were named players of the match for their No. 1 doubles victory.
The duo of Caylie Cook and Danielle Rutherford also won their doubles match, 6-2, 6-3, and Alexis Corn (6-2, 6-1) and Shayla Bohman (6-3, 6-3) were victorious in singles play.
The Riders (2-0 league and overall) travel to Olympic on Friday for a league match.

SILVERDALE — Eagles’ pitchers held the Redskins to a lone infield single, and windy conditions made playing difficult in an Olympic League make-up game Wednesday night.
Hard-luck senior Ryan Unbedacht (0-3) took the loss despite another solid outing, in addition to providing the only hit of the game for Port Townsend.
“Our freshmen played well defensively, considering the conditions,” coach Tom Webster said.
“Three of these kids saw their first varsity action. The wind seemed to blow the ball 50 feet at times.”
The Redskins (0-6, 0-7) travel to rival Chimacum on Friday for an Olympic League game.
