SEQUIM — The Port Angeles girls golf team took over the lead for the Olympic League championship after shading previously unbeaten Olympic on Tuesday at Cedars at Dungeness Golf Course.
At the same double-dual meet, the Trojans beat host Sequim to leave the Roughriders at the top of the standings at 3-0-1 while the Wolves and Olympic sit in second at 3-1 each.
Port Angeles and Sequim did not compete against each other in this meet but they will battle in a showdown for the league championship Tuesday on the Riders’ home course at Peninsula Golf Club starting at 3 p.m.
The Wolves won’t be pushovers to their archrivals. Sequim nudged Port Angeles earlier in the year in a nonleague meet. Next week, though, it counts.
The Riders beat the Trojans 102-99 on Tuesday while Olympic edged Sequim 99-85.
While the three top teams in the league beat on each other there has been one constant in every match.
That would be Sequim ace Zoei Zbaraschuk. She remains undefeated in league after claiming medalist honors in Tuesday’s competition.
Zbaraschuk scored a 2-over par 39 on the nine holes for 34 Stableford points to blow away the field.
There was a three-way tie for second as Emily Cook and Tracie DuPuis of Port Angeles both shot 47s for 26 Stableford points. Olympic’s Shalyn Hersel also had a gross 47.
For Port Angeles, Ev Grier had a 53, followed by Lauren Coventon with 55 and D’Arcy Depew with 61.
For Sequim, Kim Duce shot 56, followed by Lisa Doan with 60 and Hailey Estes with 63.
Tiffany Stafford was second for Olympic with a 48, followed by teammates Hanna Rose with 53, Nicole Stewart with 57 and Brittany Klauda with 61.
Boys Soccer: Forks 3, Rochester 1
FORKS — Forks held off Rochester in Tuesday’s Southwest Washington League soccer match on the strength of two goals by Tyler Kershner.
Kershner, a senior playing his first season of high school soccer for Forks coach Brian Bowers, has now recorded eight goals on the year.
“He has a lot of speed and his ball control and his skill level has been steadily progressing as the year has gone on,” Bowers said.
Kershner benefitted from being in the right place at the right time, redirecting a Wilson Avila-Luna cross for the Spartans first goal six minutes into the game.
“That one might have gone in on its own,” Bowers said.
Cristian Molina gave Forks a 2-0 lead with a goal eight minutes later.
Forks (10-3, 10-3) kept Rochester off the scoreboard until the Warriors scored just before halftime in the 38th minute.
“We played well the first 30 minutes, then they started to get into a bit of a lazy mentality,” Bowers said.
“They had a two-goal lead against a team that’s lower in the standings, and I think they thought we could coast.”
Forks missed out on some scoring opportunities with misses and the referee’s whistle, ending potential chances at adding to their slim lead.
Kershner provided the insurance goal in a much more stylish fashion in the 78th minute.
“He went one-on-one with the goal and beat him with a sliding kick,” Bowers said of the final goal.
Forks takes the long trip down to Stevenson on Friday.

SEQUIM — Aldo Garcia scored in the 33rd minute on an assist from Jerry Azanza to give the Wolves (11-3-1) the Olympic League win Monday.
Sequim outshot the Trojans 20-6.
Senior goalkeeper Matt Bedinger recorded his eighth straight shutout.
Cascade Christian 3, Chimacum 1
PUYALLUP — Cascade Christian led only 1-0 at halftime but scored twice more in the second half to put the game away.
Perry Pearsall scored the Cowboys with five minutes left in the game to keep Cascade Christian from the shutout.
Keegan Young had the assist for Chimacum.
The Cowboys, 0-9 in league and 3-12 overall, will finish the season at home May 5 against the same Cascade Christian team.
