SPORTS: Port Angeles girls, Olympic boys dominate three-way track meet with Sequim

PORT ANGELES — Cameron Braithwaite of Port Angeles and Sequim’s Jayson Brocklesby were both double winners at a three-way Olympic League track and field meet at Port Angeles High School.

The Roughriders, meanwhile, dominated the girls meet with 88.5 points while Olympic of Silverdale was runner-up with 54.5 and Sequim came in third at 46.

The Trojans dominated the boys meet with 85 points while the Wolves took second with 51 and the Riders were third

with 44.

Braithwaite, a state-class athlete, continued his powerhouse season, winning both jumping events.

He captured the long jump title with a leap of 21-05¼ — beating out the runner-up by almost 5 feet — and taking the triple jump with a season-best distance of 42-04, besting the second placer by more than 2 feet.

Brocklesby, meanwhile, won the 400-meter dash with a time of 54.29 seconds, and he earned the high jump title with a season-best 6-04 height, winning by a little less than a foot.

The Sequim boys claimed four individual wins and a relay victory while the Riders had four first places.

Also winning individual events for the Wolves were Emanuel Herrera in the 300 hurdles in 43.24 and Mack Grinnell in pole vault with a height of 12 feet even, beating runner-up and teammate Hamish Peers by a foot.

The Sequim 4×100 relay also won in 44.27 seconds with Brocklesby, Herrera, Christian Miles and Lopaka Yasamura.

The Rider boys also had victories from Nick Shindler in the 3,200 run in 10:16.58, and Jordan Norberg in javelin with a toss of 173 feet even, almost 5 feet better than his best throw this year.

The Port Angeles girls captured eight first places, including claiming one relay event.

Taking individual honors for the Riders in running events were Elizabeth Stevenson in the 3,200 run in 12:22.63, Jolene Millsap in the 100 sprint in 13.24 seconds and Elyse Lovgren in the 200 in a season-best 28.08 seconds.

Port Angeles field-event winners were Cami Raber in the shot put with a distance of 28-03, Brooke Sires in discus with a throw of 69-01, Katelyn Noard in javelin with a distance of 99-06 and Tarah Erickson in pole vault with a height of 9-06.

Also winning was the Rider girls 4×100 relay in a time of 54.70 seconds with Allison Hodgin, Khaya Elliot, Lovgren and Millsap.

The Sequim girls took four events, taking two relays, including the 4×400 in 4:38.12 with Mandi England, Jasmine McMullin, Hannah Hudson and Emily VanDyken, and the 4×200 in 1:55.53 with England, Vanessa Ridgeway, VanDyken and Hudson.

Individual Sequim winners included Sarah Hutchison in the 100 hurdles in 17.10 seconds and McMullin in the triple jump with a leap of 31-06¼
