PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles boys soccer team spread the joy around as five players scored in a 5-1 nonleague victory over Chimacum on Monday.
The Roughriders led 4-0 at halftime and cruised to the win, improving to 4-2-1 on the year.
Civic Field still wasn’t ready to play on, so the game was moved to Roosevelt Elementary School.
Port Angeles scored three goals in the first 16 minutes as Kurbanjan Mamat, Abinet Hayden, Anthony Brandon and Bobby Stevenson scored the first-half goals for the Riders.
Ali El-Maallam, Mamat, Tamrat Haskins and Brandon all had assists in the first half.
Chris Pieper scored on a free kick for Chimacum in the 47th minute to make it a 4-1 game and to ruin the Riders’ bid for a shutout.
Max Maier scored the final goal for the Riders, in the 66th minute, as Stevenson earned the assist.
“We had some nice passing and some good goals,” Port Angeles coach Chris Saari said.
“The whole team played well and everyone got into the game.”
Goalkeepers Jack Doryland and Forrest Emmett combined for five saves for the Riders.
Mamat was named the offensive player of the match while Sam Beasley was picked as the defensive player and Stevenson was selected as the transition player.
This was the first boys soccer match between Port Angeles and Chimacum.
The Riders next host Olympic in an Olympic League game Wednesday with the site unknown at this point.
It will be played at Civic Field if it is ready or at Roosevelt or Peninsula College if Civic is not ready.
Baseball Kingston 5, Port Angeles 0
KINGSTON — The Roughriders still are looking for their hitting game as Kingston left-hander Josh Herrera mowed them down for a no-hitter Monday in an Olympic League game.
“We’re trying to get our bats going,” coach Bob Withrow said. “This is the second consecutive time we have been shut out.
“We’re not having a good approach at the plate.
“Our pitchers have been doing an outstanding job and until [Monday], our defense has been good.”
The Riders had two errors against the Buccaneers.
Cody Sullivan (0-1) started on the mound for his first outing of the year, striking out four while giving up just one run on two hits in four innings.
Kingston scored once in the first, three times in the fifth and once in the sixth.
The Port Angeles JV team beat Kingston 2-1 in eight innings in its first game of the year.
Vern Pritchard scored the winning run on a sacrifice fly by Michael Konopaski in the eighth.
The Riders next host North Mason today at Volunteer Field.
Bremerton 14, Port Townsend 6
PORT TOWNSEND — The Redskins scored five runs in the fourth inning to tie the game up but the Knights quickly scored three more in the top of the fifth and never trailed after that.
Port Townsend went with a sophomore and two freshmen on the mound and had some control issues in the late innings, giving up six walks.
The Redskins were aggressive on the bases with seven steals.
Defensively, center fielder Devon Courtney had a great game along with shortstop/pitcher Kyle Kelly.
Kelly and Matt Juran were strong at the plate as Kelly went 2-for-3 and Juran went 2-for-4. Both had an RBI each.
Rainier 20, 24, Forks 0, 8
RAINIER — The Spartans had a tough time in the Southwest Washington League doubleheader on Friday.
Forks now is 0-4 in league and 0-5 overall.
Cameron Leon had three doubles and two RBIs in the doubleheader.
Softball Port Angeles 2, Kingston 1
KINGSTON — The Roughriders scored two runs in the first inning and held on against the Buccaneers in Olympic League action Monday.
Stacy Webb (3-0) had 11 strikeouts in the seven-inning game with one walk and giving up just four hits as the Riders improved to 4-0 in league and overall.
Kelsey Hinsdale went a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate with a run and RBI while Tori Holcomb had a hit and RBI.
Mariah Frazier, Hannah Wahto and Meleny Fors all had a hit each for Port Angeles.
The Riders next play today at home against North Mason at Dry Creek Elementary School.
