SILVERDALE — The Sequim girls and Port Angeles boys dominated a three-way Olympic League track and field meet at Olympic High School on Thursday.
The Roughriders had five double winners in the meet while the Wolves had four on a wet and cold day that included rain and sleet.
“It was brutal cold,” Sequim coach Brad Moore said. “It felt like it was 15 degrees.”
“It was tough to get going.”
Despite the miserable conditions, the Sequim girls won with 83 points to improve to 3-1 while Port Angeles was second with 66 and Olympic third with 37.
Riders win by 11 points
Port Angeles won the boys meet with 74 points with Olympic runner-up at 63 and Sequim (0-4) third with 44.
The Riders dominated the sprints and weight events, which is where their double winners were concentrated.
Rickie Porter, who was second in the long jump, won the boys 100 and 200 events while Kathryn Moseley captured the 200 and 400 races.
Troy Martin almost swept the weight events for the Riders, taking the shot put and discus but coming in second in the javelin behind teammate Cameron Braithwaite, who also won the long jump.
Andrus throws well
Kiana Andrus also performed well in the girls throwing events,winning the shot put and discus as Port Angeles won all weight events except girls javelin.
Sequim, meanwhile, had four athletes win double events, including Audrey Lichten in the 3,200 and the 1,600; Sarah Hutchison claimed the 300 and 100 hurdles; Jayson Brockelsby took the 400 and high jump’ and Haleigh Harrison captured the triple and high jump.
The Sequim girls also won the 4×100 and 4×400 relays.
“Our young girls especially had a strong meet,” Moore said.
Hutchison is just a freshman along with Mandi England, who won the 100 race.
“Mandi also blew away her 200 heat and got second overall,” Moore said.
Both Hutchison and England also were on the two winning relay teams.
Lichten, a senior, also ran on the 4×4 relay team.
“Audrey did a great job running,” Moore said.
Brockelsby, meanwhile, held off two Port Angeles runners to win the 400.
“Jayson had two PA runners on his tail the whole way but they weren’t able to get around him,” Moore said.

Forks at Rochester
ROCHESTER — The Spartans had nine winners in a four-way SWL-Evergreen Division meet Thursday.
“All in all, we did well,” Forks coach Pam Gale said.
The Forks boys came in second.
“For awhile I thought we were going to win the boys meet,” she said.
Winning for the boys were Shane WhiteEagle in the 100, Brian Santman in the 800, John James in the 3,200, Sebastion Ramos in the 400 and Eugene Hayes in discus.
“We did really well despite the conditions,” Gale said. “It was raining and sleeting.”
Winning for the Spartan girls were Kirsten Larson, who was a double winner in the 1,600 and 3,200; Sydney Christiansen in the shot put and Teresa Soha in discus.
The Spartans next compete at the Crescent Invitational in Joyce on Saturday.
“Hopefully, we will do a little better at Crescent,” Gale said.
Boys Soccer Kingston 2, Port Townsend 0
PORT TOWNSEND — In probably the only place it wasn’t raining in western Washington on Thursday night, the Buccaneers held off the Redskins (1-2, 2-7-1) in Olympic League action.
“It was warm over here [on Thursday],” Port Townsend coach Patrick Kane said.
“It has been sunny in five of our games this year.”
Kingston led 1-0 at halftime and scored again in the second half to win by only two goals despite outshooting the Redskins 22-5.
“We went into a defensive stance early because I wanted to keep the game close,” Kane said.
Port Townsend goalkeeper Brian LeMaster had 20 saves.
The Redskins next play at Orting on Saturday in a nonleague game.
Port Townsend stayed close to Kingston despite being down two starters because of injuries.
Xavier Frank was not able to play Thursday.
Port Angeles 0, North Mason 0
PORT ANGELES — The Roughriders and Bulldogs both earned one point for the Olympic League standings after tying after 80 minutes of regulation and 10 minutes of overtime Thursday.
The Riders are now 0-1-2 in league and 5-3-2 overall.
“It was a close game with both teams hitting the cross bar,” coach Chris Saari said.
Tamrat Haskins hit the cross bar for the Riders in the first half.
Offensive player of the match for Port Angeles was Anthony Brandon while Ali El Maallam was named the transition player of the match and backup goalkeeper Forrest Emmett and Max Bukovnik were picked as co-defensive players of the match.
The Riders next will host Klahowya in a makeup match Saturday at Civic Field at 1:45 p.m.
