SEQUIM — The Port Angeles boys golf team is peaking at the perfect time.
The Roughriders scored their highest stableford point total of the season Tuesday, dropping archrival Sequim 120-111 in both teams’ final Olympic League match of the season.
Port Angeles’ Jordan Negus won match medalist honors for the fourth time, shooting a 79 under wet and gray skies at Cedars at Dungeness Golf Course.
Garrett Payton and Bryan Schlinkmann added dueling 81s for the Riders, as Port Angeles finished with the top three scores of the match.
Just the kind of results one wants with postseason golf looming right around the corner.
“I think it’s a message for the rest of the league next year,” Port Angeles coach Mark Mitrovich said. “Everyone will be back next year.
“If they play this summer, they will get to the next level.”
Negus, currently the second-best scorer among the league’s 3A teams, scored two birdies and nine pars as the medalist.
Yet it was Schlinkmann’s 81 that really made the difference in the Rider win, according to both coaches.
“It was all looking really close coming down the stretch,” Mitrovich said.
“When his score card came in we were really pumped up.”
Schlinkmann is usually around the fourth-, fifth- or sixth-best scorer among the Riders. His 27 stableford points on Tuesday were his most this spring.
“The bottom guys are the guys that really count,” Sequim coach Vic Quinet said.
Ryan O’Mera led the Wolves with a score of 82, good for 26 stableford points, while Steve Loerlein added an 83.
Due to the result, both teams finished tied for third in the Olympic League with matching 4-3 records.
Each will return to Dungeness next Monday for the Olympic League tournament.
Before then, however, Negus, O’Mera and Loerlein will get to go to the prestigious Bill Egbers Memorial on Thursday and Friday.
The Egbers includes the best golfers from around the state across several classifications.
“Theses are tournaments where you see names like Fred Couples,” Quinet said.
Added Mitrovich, “It is the best tournament in the state. It’s an honor to be invited and play in it.”

Port Townsend wins three-way
KINGSTON — The Redskins easily beat Kingston and North Kitsap in an Olympic League match at White Horse Golf Club on Monday.
Port Townsend had 102 points to 88 for Kingston. North Kitsap played nine holes instead of 18, and did not turn in scores.
Ronnie Harrell won medalist honors with a score of 78 for 30 stableford points.
Cody Piper was runner-up with an 84 for 24 points, followed by Sean Anderson 92, Andy Jauhola 90, Jake Von Volkli 93 and Gabe Hensley 97.
“Our boys like to shoot better but they played well to win on a tough course,” coach Gabriel Tonan said.
Chimacum 175, S. Christian 188
PORT LUDLOW — The Cowboys went 1-2 to easily win the Nisqually League match against Seattle Christian at Port Ludlow Golf & Country Club on Tuesday.
Chimacum’s Eric Nelson beat everybody with a nine-hole even-par score of 36 while teammate Mason Moug was right behind with 38.
Jacob Doss led Seattle Christian with a 39.
Jacob Ruby scored 49 while Nathan Browning had 52 and Jarrett Hansen 53 for the Cowboys.
Girls Golf Port Townsend in three-way meet
KINGSTON — Port Townsend’s two-person team shot well in an Olympic League meet against Kingston and North Kitsap at White Horse Golf Club on Monday.
Jenny Grauberger shot a 47 in the nine-hole competition for 25 stableford points while teammate Alexa Russell shot a 53 for 19 points.
Grauberger claimed second place just five strokes behind Kingston’s Elle Sander.
“Our girls played well on a most difficult course in the rain and hail,” coach Gabriel Tonan said.
“They have competed on this course just once, so we are very pleased with their scores.”
Softball Chimacum 14, Port Townsend 0
PORT TOWNSEND — Arlie Petrick pitched her second no-hitter of the season as the Cowboys beat their archrival Redskins in nonleague action Tuesday.
Petrick (4-0 in Nisqually League, 6-0 overall) struck out 10 in the five-inning game, walking three. She also has a combined perfect game and a combined no-hitter on the year.
The Cowboys (10-0, 13-2) scored in every inning, earning 16 hits and having no errors.
Krista Hathaway and catcher Brittany Nelson ripped home runs for Chimacum.
Hathaway went 3-for-3 with three RBIs and she scored a run while Nelson had two RBIs and scored two runs in a 1-for-4 day.
Lacey Carter went 2-for-2 with a triple, RBI and run while Petrick helped her own cause by going 2-for-3 with an RBI and run.
The Cowboys next host Klahowya today.

POULSBO — The Vikings, who scored in the 46th minute, ended any hope of postseason play for the Roughriders.
Port Angeles (3-6-1, 4-10-1) hung in the game despite being outshot 28-5.
Coach Chris Saari named Tobias Thomas and freshman goalkeeper jack Doryland as defensive players of the game, and Nick Shindler and Sam Beasley as transistion players of the match.
The Riders will conclude the season at home against Olympic for senior night Thursday at 6:45 p.m. at Civic Field.
Baseball Port Townsend 9, Bremerton 4
BREMERTON — Ryan Unbedacht pitched his sixth complete game this season to lead the Redskins past the Knights in Monday’s Olympic League game.
Unbedacht battled for seven innings, striking out one while scattering seven hits and four walks in the Redskins’ second win of the year.
“He didn’t have his best stuff, but he’s a gamer,” Port Townsend coach Tom Webster said. “He pitched his butt off in his final high school outing.”
Zac Olson went 3-for-4 with two RBIs to lead the Redskins (2-13 in league, 2-15 overall) at the plate.
Matt Juran added two RBIs of his own as part of a 1-2 day.
Port Townsend closes out its season with a game at Klahowya today.
