PORT ANGELES — Ian Ward and Colin Wheeler combined for 41 points to spark the Port Angeles boys basketball team to an easy Olympic League win over North Kitsap on Tuesday night.
Wheeler led everyone with 21 while Ward was right behind with 20 as the Roughriders ripped the Vikings 69-34 despite missing two starters because of injuries.
The Riders tuned up for a showdown game at home against archrival Sequim on Tuesday. The two rivals will battle for second place in league in the final regular season game of the year.
Meanwhile, the Riders (10-4, 12-6) will host North Mason on Thursday night.
On Tuesday, the Riders rolled even without starters Cameron Braithwaite and Justin Antioquia, who were sitting out with injuries.
“Everyone else stepped up and did a good job in the game,” Port Angeles coach Wes Armstrong said.
Wheeler had seven rebounds and seven steals to go with his game-high 21 points while Ward had a game-high nine rebounds and four steals to go with his 20 points.
Tanner Phair added five assists to the victory.
“We were pretty efficient from the field,” Armstrong said. “We shot over 60 percent.”
Everyone who played scored for the Riders.
Port Angeles and Sequim will play for second and third in league Tuesday at 7 p.m.
The second-place team gets to host a sub-district playoff game.

BELFAIR — Seiji Thielk and Jacob DeBerry combined for 44 points to lead the Redskins to the crucial Olympic League win Tuesday night.
It was a must-win to have a shot at the playoffs with just two games left in the regular season.
There is some confusion about the playoffs as Port Townsend coach Tom Webster said the Redskins earned a playoff spot with the victory but other league officials say they must finish within fifth place out of the league’s 2A schools.
Port Townsend is a 1A school.
The Redskins were behind 29-23 at halftime but came surging back in the third quarter to take the lead, 43-37.
“We played probably our best quarter of basketball in the third quarter,” Webster said.
“We took the lead in the third and then we controlled the game in the fourth.
“It was do-or-die for us. We really responded well.”
Thielk led everyone with 23 points while DeBerry sank 21. Hab Rubio added 11.
The Redskins (5-10, 7-12) next host powerhouse Bremerton on Friday night.
