PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles boys tennis team shut out Port Townsend/Chimacum 7-0 in an Olympic League match Monday.
The Roughriders didn’t drop a set on their way to the dominating win.
“We’ve been rained out a couple of times recently, so our guys were eager to play [Monday],” Port Angeles coach Brian Gundersen said.
Gundersen singled out No. 1 singles player Micah Roos as the player of the match.
Roos defeated Egan Cornachione 6-1, 6-0.
“Micah is really in control of his game right now,” Gundersen said.
“He’s a great example for our younger players, and he played great.”
The Riders next travel to archrival Sequim in an Olympic League match Wednesday.
Winning for the Riders were:
No. 1 singles — Roos defeated Cornachione, 6-1, 6-0.
No. 2 singles — Hayden McCartney defeated Benny Ryweck 6-2, 7-5.
No. 3 singles — Connor Reid defeated Danny Nelson 6-0, 6-0.
No. 1 doubles — A.J. Konopaski/Sam Beasley defeated Ian Norris/Riley Downs 6-0, 6-0.
No. 2 doubles — Michael Konopaski/Marcus Konopaski defeated Quinn Eldridge/Roland Edwards 6-0, 6-1.
No. 3 doubles — Derek Crain/Easton Napiontek defeated James Campbell/Tommy Radon 6-1, 6-0.
No. 4 doubles — Chase Walsh/Jordan Negus defeated Shay Snider/Wyatt Savdge 6-0, 6-0.
Volleyball Peninsula 3, Port Angeles 0
GIG HARBOR — The Roughriders had a tough time on the road against the Seahawks in a nonleague match Monday night.
Peninsula of the Key Peninsula won 25-19, 25-23, 25-13.
“They were a good team,” Port Angeles coach Christine Halberg said.
“They were consistent and we struggled putting the ball away.”
Kiah Jones led the Riders with five kills, six digs, two blocks and two serving aces while Danielle Rutherford had seven digs, four kills and two blocks.
Taylyn Jeffers had four kills and three blocks, and Chloe Johnston earned seven digs.
Setter Emily Drake dished out 15 assists and also had six digs and a serving ace.
The Riders next host Kingston in a nonleague match tonight.
