PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles boys tennis team blanked Kingston 7-0 in an Olympic League match Monday.
The Roughriders (2-1) got off to a quick start and never looked back.
“I was happy with the level of focus our guys came out with [on Monday] and I hope we can build on that as the season goes on,” Port Angeles coach Brian Gundersen said.
The Port Angeles doubles teams all won their matches in two sets each while only one singles match went the distance of three sets.
Hayden McCartney beat Loren Klemesrud 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1 singles while Jordan Negus defeated Chris Daniels 6-0, 4-6, 6-2 and Alex Brown pounded patrick Daniels 6-1, 6-2.
Sam Beasley and Connor Reid led the doubles charge at No. 1, beating Beau Robideaux and Tyler Shuey 6-3, 6-4.
Chase Walsh and Kevin Herzog were named the players of the match by Gundersen by beating Erik Reichert and Jordan Mick 6-2, 6-4 at No. 3 doubles.
“Chase and kevin have been playing well for over a week, and I was impressed with their consistency [on Monday],” Gundersen said.
At No. 2 doubles, Marcus and Michael Konopaski defeated Kyle Hamal and Cody Sweeney 7-6, 6-2 while at No. 4 Kapono rogers and Derek Schumacher beat Keenan Clark and Justine Hererra 6-0, 6-0.
The Riders next travel to Chimacum to play Chimacum-Port Townsend on Wednesday in Olympic League competition.

JOYCE — The JV Wolves gave the Loggers all they could handle in the nonleague barn-burning match Monday.
Crescent (2-0) won by the score of 25-22, 25-18, 16-25, 22-25, 15-12.
The last game went down to the wire, Crescent coach Alex Baker said.
“We knew the last game was going to be a shootout, and it was,” he said.
“It went back-and-forth and was close the whole way.”
Cathryn Youngman secured the win with her outstanding serving.
Youngman ended up 28 of 30 in serves during the match with six aces and a kill.
“That was excellent serving,” Baker said.
Setter Rachel Bowen, meanwhile, directed the offense with 17 assists and she was seven of nine in serves with an ace and had a tip for points.
“Rachel made outstanding clutch saves,” Baker said.
Jandi Frantz was dominate in the middle for the Loggers with 14 kills, a tip and four blocks. She also was six of nine in serves.
Crescent next hosts Clallam Bay in a nonleague match Thursday.

PORT ANGELES — The youthful Spartans demonstrated that the Forks football program is ready for a resurgence in junior varsity action at Civic Field on Monday.
Forks turned a 14-0 halftime lead into a 42-6 rout with a solid second half, outscoring the Roughriders 28-6 in the last two periods.
The lone touchdown for the Riders came on a long run by freshman Matt Robbins, who also had two touchdown-saving tackles on defense.
