PORT ANGELES — Senior Abbie Moseley has become a scoring machine for the Port Angeles girls soccer team with another five goals Monday night.
Abbie Moseley led the Roughriders to a nonleague 6-1 victory over archrival Sequim at Civic Field.
It was 4-1 at halftime as Port Angeles (2-0) outshot the Wolves 24-7.
Jamie Curtis of Port Angeles scored the first goal of the game and then it was the Abbie Moseley show.
Moseley also scored five goals in a 12-0 rout of Chimacum on Saturday.
The 10 goals more than doubles the three goals Abbie Moseley had as a junior.
Moseley’s little sister, Kathryn Moseley, had two assists. The sophomore assisted Curtis in the game’s first goal and she assisted on one of her sister’s goals.
It was 2-0 when Sequim’s Kyla Hall scored to make it close at 2-1 during the 19th minute.
“That was a beautiful shot by Kyla Hall,” Port Angeles coach Scott Moseley said. “She shot from35 to 40 yards out.
“I was a little worried that Sequim might score a few more times that way.”
It didn’t happen as Port Angeles goalkeeper Elise Reid had seven saves. Sequim goalie Rachel DeWees was even busier with 11 saves.
Abbie Moseley was named offensive player of the match while Kathryn Moseley was named transition player of the match with her two assists and junior left outside back was selected as the defensive player of the game.
Scott Moseley is expecting a lot stiffer competition starting today when the Class 3A Riders take on 4A Central Kitsap in Silverdale in another nonleague game.
“The girls are playing very well but we will get tested by Central Kitsap,” Scott Moseley said.
“That will be a difficult game. We will see where we are at.”
Volleyball Clallam Bay 3, Taholah 0
TAHOLAH — The Bruins (2-0) shut down Taholah in their second match of the year.
Clallam Bay won the nonleague match 25-13, 25-16, 25-14.
“The girls played very well for the first two games,” Clallam Bay coach Michelle Klepps said.
“This is a good way to start the season.”
Senior Sara Reeves led on offense with four kills while Stena Erickson had two kills and five aces, Courtney Willis earned two kills and two aces and Gloria Ojeda served an ace.
The Bruins next play at home against Wishka on Friday.
Seattle Christian 3, Chimacum 0
SEATTLE — Nisqually League powerhouse Seattle Christian handed the Cowboys their first loss of the year.
“They went pretty far last year and they have an Amazon on their team,” Chimacum coach Bridgett Kaminski-Richardson said about Seattle Christian.
The Cowboys (1-1 in league, 3-1 overall) lost 25-10, 25-11, 25-17.
The Cowboys next play at home Wednesday in a league battle with Vashon Island.
Boys Tennis Port Angeles 5, Bremerton 2
BREMERTON — The Roughriders got their season off to a good start with the victory over the Knights on Monday.
The new-look Riders had seven new players suit up for the varsity and overcame some early jitters to take the match going away.
“I could tell there were some nerves at the beginning, but our guys did a great job settling down and playing some good tennis,” coach Brian Gundersen said.
Winning for the Riders were singles players Connor Reid at No. 2 and Luis Neumeir at No. 3, and doubles players Hayden McCartney and A.J. Konopaski at No. 1, Michael Konopaski and Marcus Konopaski at No. 3 and Tavish Casey and Anatol Kuhari at No. 4.
McCartney and A.J. Konopaski were picked as the players of the match.
“Hayden and A.J. do a great job communicating and covering the court,” Gundersen said.
“They were aggressive and it really paid off.”
The Riders take on North Kitsap on Wednesday at home.
