PORT ANGELES — Jordan Negus earned medalist honors for the second time this year to spark the Port Angeles boys golf team to a 44-39 victory over Klahowya in a nine-hole Olympic League match Monday.
Negus shot a 3-over 40 and had six pars while teammate Taran Grimsley had a 44, his lowest round of the year by seven strokes, and good for three pars.
Terrance Stevenson was right behind with 45 while Garrett Payton and Austin Underwood both tied with 51 each.
The Riders, who are now 2-2 on the year, next play at the Higgins Invitational on Thursday.
Boys Soccer Port Angeles 1, Port Townsend 1
PORT ANGELES — Redskin Sebastian Lyons netted a goal in the 72nd minute to salvage a tie against the Riders on Tuesday.
Port Angeles (2-3-1, 3-7-1) went ahead in the 29th minute after Anthony Brandon fed Forrest Epstein for a score. Yet neither team could capitalize on its many chances — Port Townsend outshot Port Angeles 36-23 — until Lyons scored the equalizer.
“We missed some big opportunities, [and] they hit out crossbar three times,” Port Angeles coach Chris Saari said. “We definitely had some finishing problems.”
Freshman goalkeeper Jack Doryland came up with several key saves for the Riders.
Saari named Epstein the offensive player of the match, Max Bukovnik the defensive player and Kyle Bingham the transition player.

MONTESANO — Montesano scored one goal in each half to down the Spartans in Southwest Washington League action Monday.
“It was an evenly matched game but we just couldn’t find the back of the net,” coach Brian Bowers said.
Forks outshot Montesanco13-11.
Vashon 3, Chimacum 0
CHIMACUM — The Cowboys gave up all three goals in the second half in the Nisqually League game Tuesday.
Chimacum had 12 shots on goal but fell to 0-6 in league and 4-7 overall.
The Cowboys, though, beat the Kingston JV 3-1 at Chimacum in a nonleague game Saturday on a hat trick by Caleb Brown.
Keegan Young had two assists in the game.
The Cowboys next host Orting on Thursday.
Forks 4, Toledo-Winlock 3
TOLEDO — The Spartans took the back end of a two-game road trip Tuesday to further solidify their second-place standing in the SWL-Evergreen Division.
Wilson Avila-Luna dished out three assists, two on goals by Alexis Ayala, as Forks rebounded from a 2-0 loss at Montesano the day before.
“We got it done,” Forks coach Brian Bowers said. “We could have played a little bit better, but we’re still working, still learning.”
The Spartans (6-3, 7-5) host first-place Montesano on Thursday in a rematch of Monday’s game.

BREMERTON — Nick Riders scored a hat trick to hand the Wolves their third straight Olympic League loss.
After a pair of overtime losses to Kingston and state-ranked North Kitsap, the normally stout Sequim defense allowed three Bremerton goal in the first 30 minutes Tuesday.
“They kind of outworked us,” Sequim coach Dave Brasher said. “They outplayed us, but we didn’t play that bad. It was more that they played really well.”
Waylon Lam tied the score at 1-1 off an Austin Sanford assist in the third minute for the lone Sequim goal. Bremerton responded with two more goals in the next 25 minutes.
“We need to win again to get back a little more confidence,” Brasher said.
Sequim (3-3, 6-3) hosts archrival Port Angeles on Friday at 6:45 p.m.

BREMERTON — The Wolves (2-4) won two doubles matches against the Knights in Olympic League action Monday.
Sequim’s No. 1 doubles team of Katrina Chan/Stacy Hanson won 3-6, 6-3, 6-0. The No. 3 doubles team of Ellen Cain/Hillary Smith won 6-4, 6-1.
Kyla Hall lost a heartbreaker at No. 1 singles as she fell to Bremerton’s Bre Casias 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7-4).
Baseball Sequim 7, Klahowya 6
SILVERDALE – The Wolves escaped a wild seventh inning Tuesday to beat their 2A Olympic League counterparts for the second time this season.
Sequim pitchers walked in three runs in the bottom of the seventh before senior closer Jeremie Oliver saved the game on a strike out with the bases loaded and two outs.
“The ump just really got tight,” said Sequim coach Dave Ditlefsen, whose pitchers walked five batter that inning. “He just changed the zone all of the sudden.”
Oliver’s heroics gave starter Matt Bereiter, in control during most of the six-plus innings he was on the hill, his first win of the season. Bereiter struck out 11 and gave up just six hits before giving way to his brother, Mike, in the seventh.
Preston McFarland led the Wolves at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs score, two RBIs and two stolen bases.
Matt Rief was 1-for-4, his two-run double being the key hit in a five-run top of the fourth for Sequim.
Sequim (5-4 in league, 6-7 overall) hosts archrival Port Angeles today at 4 p.m.

KINGSTON — The Buccaneers jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead in the first two innings and never looked back in the Olympic League game Monday.
Augie Konopaski went 2-for-2 with a run scored, stolen base and walk for the Riders (4-6, 4-7).
Kingston beat the Port Angeles JV 13-10.
The Riders next play at archrival Sequim today.

KINGSTON — Miranda Pitz’s leadoff triple sparked the Roughriders to the Olympic League win Monday.
Pitz went 3-for-4 in the game while scoring two runs and hitting a run in. Hannah Wahto went 2-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI.
Amanda Wasnock improved to 3-0 as she went the distance on the mound, pitching seven complete innings. She struck out six while walking none and allowing five hits.
The Riders (6-2, 7-5) next travel to rival Sequim today.
